Rules (2024-08-30)
- This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
- No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
- Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
- No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, islamophobia, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism. We follow German law; don't question the statehood of Israel.
- Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
- If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
- Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in other communities.
- Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
- No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)
- Always provide context with posts: Don't post uncontextualized images or videos, and don't start discussions without giving some context first.
(This list may get expanded as necessary.)
Posts that link to the following sources will be removed
- on any topic: Al Mayadeen, brusselssignal:eu, citjourno:com, europesays:com, Breitbart, Daily Caller, Fox, GB News, geo-trends:eu, news-pravda:com, OAN, RT, sociable:co, any AI slop sites (when in doubt please look for a credible imprint/about page), change:org (for privacy reasons)
- on Middle-East topics: Al Jazeera
- on Hungary: Euronews
Unless they're the only sources, please also avoid The Sun, Daily Mail, any "thinktank" type organization, and non-Lemmy social media. Don't link to Twitter directly, instead use xcancel.com. For Reddit, use old:reddit:com
(Lists may get expanded as necessary.)
Ban lengths, etc.
We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.
If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 7 or 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.
If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to the primary mod account @EuroMod@feddit.org
It's a very odd kind of comfort, especially because it comes with the certainty that, this time, there won't be any outside help against the Nazi scum.
There wasn't outside help for Germany either. Until the war, the disabled, socialists, lgbtq and colored people will live in terror, if at all.
There is still an outside. China has to be contained. There will be war. If China wins, and depending on how much our image of China is propaganda, that could be liberation.
Go back to Lemmygrad please.
Don't you think that what is going to come will be worse than what is happening in China? At least they don't try to undo science.
Jfc, "at least it's not as bad" is a horrendous excuse to endorse a government that has committed genocide.
How about you grow a spine and reject fascism properly instead of just rebounding from one authoritarian to another.
Trail of ~~Death~~ Tears. We have been endorsing such a government all the time, which made the recent development possible instead of giving them the opportunity to change.
How would you create a government that doesn't concentrate power permanently in a group of people in some form or another?
Right, they only undo science when it makes the government look bad, like during a certain pandemic in the recent past.
What did they do? And does that outweight the fascism that we can expect for us?
They did suppress early reports on the coronavirus by Chinese medical personnel and scientists, (including arrests of people who spoke out) allowing the (initially localised) epidemic to grow into a worldwide pandemic due to belated and half arsed response pretty much everywhere.
Also, China is spiraling increasingly towards a fascist regime as well. Their "communist" party is communist in nothing but name.
You can* be communist alongside being authoritarian without necessarily being fascist. What makes you say they're spiralling towards that?
Increasing nationalism, ethnic cleansing. Also privately owned corporations.
Yeah fair, the privately-owned corporations is definitely counter to communist ideology. I think the ethnic cleansing has always been around in a sense. Religion has been suppressed, as has languages other than mandarin, like cantonese.
JAQing it a bit?
No. I know they do many rejectable things but I am aware of none that undermines science.
Even the corona report suppression is not undermining science itself.
No, they are about the same.
They have published the studies most used by nofap people, and otherwise are pushing traditional medicine within WHO, especially traditional Chinese medicine.
China famously does not have an incumbent fascist problem, and the west famously chooses to oppose China geopolitically. What the commenter above you said is correct. China is getting better in lgbtq regulation, women's rights, worker rights, healthcare and education, not worse like Europe. China is opening up its media and social media to the world (tiktok and rednote in the west), while the west closes up to them (censorship of tiktok and Russian media)...
