They aren't dumb, they just have completely different values that seem obviously wrong to us. Colonialism was powered by divide and conquer, and that is what has happened in the US. It's been like that for a while due to the brilliant idea of winning the Civil War yet letting Confederate values to hibernate like they have until now.
