It can be something you came up with yourself or came across elsewhere- doesn't have to be from the manual!
Yeah the valve stem is replaceable. Screws right out. You don't even need to fully remove it. Just a couple turns and it starts leaking air, much faster and a bit (its still pretty loud) quieter than if you just push it in.
