First Egyptian locust found in Cornwall garden this year (www.bbc.com)

An Egyptian locust has been spotted in a Cornwall garden.

Cornwall Wildlife Trust said the insect, typically found in Mediterranean Europe and North Africa, was believed to be the first sighting in the county in 2025.

The trust said the species were thought to arrive on the strong winds from the south east, adding it was likely the locust arrived on the same wind "that's dumping Saharan dust on our cars overnight".

It said only one or two Egyptian locusts were seen in the UK each year, but changing climates may make conditions here more suitable for them.

1 flew into my room once at night in Germany. I was playing on an xbox and felt something flutter by my neck. I swiped at it absent mindedly and felt something that was far larger than what I initially thought was a small moth.

Too big to cover in a cup and release, and I could not see it, only hear it ticking. Noped out of the room that night and spent the night sleeping in the bathtub
