It's possible this is the root cause. Better nutrition leads to better immune systems, more egg laying, etc.

They can only do that if they are eating the right nutrients in the first place.
Better nutrition leads to longer life. Works like that for humans too. Ramen noodles and energy drinks don't cut it either. Not that bees consume those in large quantities
