I don't think very many people would have a problem with going after Joe or Hunter Biden for illegal stuff, just need some actual real, actionable proof. 'Q drops' ain't it though.
You'll also note that when Biden and Pence found documents in their homes, they contacted the FBI and had them come get them.
Trump actively fought to avoid the documents being recovered.

One might also note, that the documents weren't in fact nuclear secrets. At least some of them were pertaining to security arrangement's for biden's son's funeral. not exactly earth shattering secrets, there. (still a good thing to keep secret, but it's not, you know, a crisis if it gets out.)

one might also note there's an "independent" special counsel being appointed to investigate biden. they probably won't find any willful wrongdoing, but details.

Why did he need to keep nuclear secrets?

It is utterly unjustifiable.
