Dems don't need to go low. They need to stop chasing conservative voters.

The reason they are so timid on everything is because the consultant class has convinced them that if they are just a bit more right wing, they'll win the next election.

If Dems fired the consultants and chased the working class, they'd win big time. People hate the Dems because they are corporate captured.

Dems don’t need to go low.

Yeah, they just need to stop taking the high road. The regular road where people are called out held accountable for being terrible is fine, no need to go low.

They wouldn’t if we voted for progressives in the primaries. The 15% that shows up for congressional primaries are almost exclusively retirees. They always pick the most conservative Democrat. We should be voting twice every two years, not once every four, for national elections alone.

...subject to availability.

I agree. Everyone should be involved and informed on how to maximize the power of their vote wherever they live. Ideally, you get plugged in with someone like the DSA and vote their endorsements.

Sadly too many people fall for spoiler candidates which is part of the reason it's so hard to unseat an incumbent.

It’s either that or many dems are ok with sitting back and acting helpless while they take their lobbying bribes and invest in the markets they regulate. Why change a system that personally benefits them so much?

stop chasing conservative voters. chased the working class,

Most of the working class is conservative. So...?

[-] ChonkyOwlbear@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago

Which working class are you talking about? Because the working class I know are weed smoking, porn watching, beer drinking dudes who don't want any of this Christofascist bullshit. It boils down to taxes and guns. Dems need to let these people have their guns and lower taxes for the bottom 50% of the country.

[-] timbuck2themoon@sh.itjust.works 1 points 20 hours ago

Rather ironic on a post about growing a spine dems are being told to just give up positions on guns and taxes.

[-] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

The Dems already let them have their guns. The Dems already want to lower taxes on the working class. This isn't new or news. So I can't say I agree with your assessment of the important topics.

What might other important topics be?

It's like the Biden economy thing. The truth doesn't matter as much as the perception of what is true.

Make a big deal about dropping gun regulation as a platform and pass a federal bill that blocks do-nothing cosmetic regulations like bans on barrel shrouds, skeleton stocks, and pistol grips for longarms. It doesn't matter that it won't make any appreciable difference. The headline will be "Dems loosen gun regulation".

Lowering taxes is a bit trickier. People have to feel it. The Child Tax Credit was factually effective, but can anyone name what they bought with that money? I still remember how I spent my Bush tax rebate. Cash in hand is what people understand. Figure out a way to send the average person a check for a couple hundred bucks every year (ideally 6 months from tax rebate season).

[-] Alpha71@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

They should look to Canada and the GST rebates they hand out 4 times a year.

Ironically, the Republicans are the ones raising their taxes. They're just too gullible and propagandized to get it through their skulls.
