Could you explain what you feel is compatible with the concept of identifying as straight while being sexually aroused by expressions of gay sexuality?

I think people have the right to identify however they please, and someone else's judgment of it is irrelevant at best.

I have no idea of the sexuality of whoever it is you're talking about.

And actually, sexuality categories were key from the start. The reason that insecure men fear and feel shame over the prospect of a wayward boner is that they're afraid that sexuality is some sort of absolutist thing, such that the least inclination toward the same sex immediately removes them from the "straight" club forever.

It became explicit when, much to my surprise, someone responded to essentially argue that same position.
