What's the old sense? A program? "AI" didn't exist in the old days and it doesn't exist now.

The logic here is like 3 lines of code maybe? The ubiquity of "AI" grifting has made language meaningless.

"AI" has existed since the 70s in terms of computing. In terms of the theory, much further back.

It was actually the 50s, commonly attributed to John McCarthy.

Yeah, AI was totally never used to describe the logic behind NPC actions as far back as the Atari days.
