If Linux was more compatible with a lot of programs/games there would be absolutely no reason to install windows ever again
good news, valve has spend the past decade making it fucking rain on compatibility projects and they've gotten really good, most stuff works out of the box now and there are edge cases that actually perform better than under windows. i won't pretend it's universal, if there's specific windows-only software you're attached to that can still be make-or-break depending what it is, but otherwise the support for windows compatibility is pretty much there now. i've been windows-free for years.
