the first confirmed video of this species in its natural habitat – a 30-centimetre juvenile

For my fellow Americans that is about the ~~length of a $5 sub from subway~~ height of two soda cans on top of a tuna can.

at a depth of 600 metres

This is ~6 1/2 football fields.

Colossal squid can grow up to seven metres

~~7~~ ~~70~~ 10 standard washing machines in width

and weigh as much as 500 kilograms

55 watermelons

$5 sub—you mean pre-Covid prices?

No idea, I have not been to Subway since 2017 or 2018. I just figured they added more sugar to the bread and less filling inside the sandwiches.

Here in Canada, we also had this promotion, 12-inches for $5… now $14.95 and garnishes are extra

Size description updated.

I haven't stepped foot in a Subway since they discontinued the "Five . . . . Five dollar foot loooong." EAR WORMS. Get them out, get them out . . . .

[-] andros_rex@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

You can’t even get a 6-inch for $5 I don’t think.

You should make some dimensional analysis/unit conversion worksheets and sell them on Teachers Pay Teachers.

You are correct, it should be ~~70~~ 10 washing machines.

[-] Phoonzang@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Look, converting metric to anything but metric is not an exact science. It is open to artistic interpretations. The number is about 10.
