I don't think we're stuck with it - it's something that is easily ripped out and it's a pretty insignificant feature that I'm not attached to.

The additional +1 vote is only for accounts that have been around a while and have a positive reputation. This gives a slight boost to people who have a good track record but not to everyone. I hope that if people understand why it's happening they won't see it as a bug...
