Computer RPGs
Community for CRPG and other RPG discussions. Focus is on CRPGs, but discussion around JPRGs, ARPGs and hybrid games with RPG components is also welcome.
Tabletop/pen & paper RPG discussion is not a good fit for this community. Check out !rpg@ttrpg.network for TT/P&P RPG discussions.
Memes are not banned, but the overwhelming focus is on discussions, releases and articles. Try and post memes (on an occasional basis) that would make people who don't like memes admit "OK! That was a good one!".

Well… They are different genres. JRPGs in general are more popular than CRPGs as a genre (if you define CRPGs as the isometric computer RPGs like Baldur’s Gate or the original Fallout). I think including CRPG-adjacent games on here makes sense, like ARPGs, all of the Bethesda games, Immersive Sims, and all of the BioWare games, but JRPGs just does not make sense to me. If we include all the CRPG-adjacent games, this community could be more successful as they are very popular.
JRPGs and CRPGs branched off in the 80s, and since then the style and approaches of the two genres are very different. CRPGs are a tabletop rpg simulator, where choices and player agency are most important (substance over style). JRPGs are a story-driven spectacle where the main gameplay is strategic party-based combat (style over substance).
I figured there might be genre difference, but also just looking at the words "computer RPG" technically includes any JRPG you can play on a computer. Wasn't sure if community title was the separate genre or just any RPG playable on a computer. Thanks for answering!
I absolutely want to see activity here. I guess I should play more CRPGs so I can make a post.
