Summary

Elon Musk accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of “feeding off the dead bodies of soldiers” and falsely claimed he is “despised” by Ukrainians, echoing Donald Trump’s rhetoric.

Musk also threatened changes to X’s Community Notes after fact-checkers refuted his claims. Trump and Musk’s remarks align with Russian propaganda, prompting European leaders to reaffirm support for Ukraine.

Observers rejected claims that Ukraine is a dictatorship, emphasizing that its wartime election suspension is both legal and justified, similar to the UK's approach during World War II.

Critics argue Musk’s stance undermines free speech and factual discourse while aiding Kremlin narratives against Ukraine.

Have you found an alternative where I can follow most public personalities that I currently follow on X?

Edit 4 days later: I came across https://openportability.org/ and used it to gather my following list on X and follow them on Bluesky and Mastodon. 3 people found on Bluesky and 0 on Mastodon...

[-] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 41 points 2 months ago

A lot of them are on Bluesky by now, and the rest? Fuck em

[-] merdaverse@lemmy.world 10 points 2 months ago

Exactly. Bluesky is not ideal by any means, and could turn into a another "X" down the line, but it's the best alternative to avoid it right now. It's also pretty popular, with some posts from famous people raking in as much engagement as Edgelord Musk on X.

[-] faythofdragons@slrpnk.net 33 points 2 months ago

So you'll keep giving money to Musk because X is convenient?

[-] alkbch@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 months ago

I don’t give money to Musk.

[-] faythofdragons@slrpnk.net 29 points 2 months ago

Not directly, but you're contributing to the profit of the platform.

There's perfect, and then there's "Sure I'm supporting a genocidal, Nazi lunatic destroying global democracy, but like... how else will I hear about what public personalities had for lunch?".

Not sure the bar could be any lower.

Beautiful whataboutism. Absolutely beautiful.

Answer the fucking question.

[-] alkbch@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 months ago

The person I was discussing with stated he’s not sure the car could be any lower, to which I reply it can be.

Eating animals contributes to the killing of billions of land animals and tens of billions of fish on a yearly basis. Most of them are raised in terrible conditions in factory farms.

“He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her”.

[-] GeeDubHayduke@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 2 months ago

Trying to justify your whataboutism doesn't change the fact that it is a whataboutism.

How many cheeseburgers do i have to eat before i start supporting Nazis?

[-] alkbch@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 months ago

So when that person wonders if the bar could be any lower, how can one respond without bringing up another comparable scenario?

[-] GeeDubHayduke@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 months ago

"You support Nazis."

"I do. Nobody's perfect."

[-] alkbch@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 months ago

I do not support Nazis.

When your life is perfect, you can criticize me.

[-] GeeDubHayduke@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 2 months ago

No. I can call out your support of Nazis without being an angel. It's your actions that are getting criticized, not you.

Try again.

[-] alkbch@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 months ago

Unless your actions are irreproachable in all aspects of life, focus on bettering yourself first.

[-] GeeDubHayduke@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 2 months ago

Great advice from someone that openly admits to supporting a Nazi website because they can't be arsed with missing a tweet from Billie Eilish.

[-] alkbch@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 months ago

I don’t know who Billie Eilish is.

[-] WhatYouNeed@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Well in the West, you would know that she's a singer.

[-] GeeDubHayduke@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 month ago

Singer is a stretch. She does ASMR with music accompaniment.

[-] faythofdragons@slrpnk.net 11 points 2 months ago

I just want you to make an informed decision mate

[-] alkbch@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 months ago

Thank you. I asked in good faith, I am exploring Mastodon and looking for the accounts I follow on X but a lot are missing unfortunately.

[-] faythofdragons@slrpnk.net 7 points 2 months ago

Getting people to switch is honestly a little complicated. People haven't switched to Mastodon because the accounts they follow aren't on Mastodon, but the accounts aren't on Mastodon because the people who follow them aren't there.

If you want to help, it might be beneficial to reach out to the accounts you follow and tell them you'd like to see them on Mastodon too.

[-] alkbch@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 months ago

That’s a good idea!

[-] wildcardology@lemmy.world 17 points 2 months ago

Really? You need these personalities in your life?

[-] alkbch@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 months ago

I like to stay informed about politics and prefer to read content straight from politicians and political analysts.

Yes. Just shove your head up your ass. You won't miss a beat.

[-] alkbch@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 months ago
[-] GeeDubHayduke@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 2 months ago

Why are you still on a Nazi site?

[-] alkbch@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 months ago

Because that is where most politicians and political commentators are.

[-] Urist@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 months ago

Out of curiosity, if Kanye West opens a book club for reading Mein Kampf, would you join it to keep up to date with unfiltered political analysis by a piece of shit? If the answer is no, maybe you should reconsider your stance on X.

[-] alkbch@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 months ago

I am not interested in Kanye West’s opinions.

[-] Urist@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 months ago

Per your other comment

First of all it remains to be seen whether Elon Musk is a Nazi.

I see where the cognitive dissonance kicks in. You do not want to be mistaken for a nazi sympathizer, but refuse to distance yourself from them on some basis of believed plausible deniability. Is it perhaps because you are indeed sympathetic to some of their fascist talking points?

[-] alkbch@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 months ago

What? I’ve never cared about Kanye West.

[-] Urist@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 months ago

Never said you did. However, we are indeed using that shithead to bisect your weird affection for X and the comparable shithead Elon Musk.

[-] alkbch@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 months ago

LOL I don’t have a weird affection for X nor Elon Musk. It’s weird to suggest that.

[-] Urist@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 months ago

He talks like a nazi, walks like a nazi and does sieg heil like a nazi. Yet you say that the verdict is still out on him being a nazi. Being this ignorant is usually willful and your reservations about being truthful about him does not portray you well. "Weird affection" was the nicest interpretation I could think of.

[-] alkbch@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 months ago

Elon Musk doesn't hate the Jews nor does he wish to expand German territory. Weren't those pillars of the Nazi ideology?

[-] Urist@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 month ago

You cannot take the cultural characteristics of the original nazi movement as a metric to measure whether someone is a neo-nazi or not. Those were the pillars of nazism then, but are not accurate to determine whether someone is a nazi today.

Mind that due to inherent contradictions within the brainrotten ideology of nazis and no nation state (yet) to put forward its flavor as the neo-nazi ideology, the term cannot by nature be anything but an unbrella term of mutual and internal conflicting ideas.

[-] alkbch@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 month ago

Interesting. So what does it mean to be a neo-nazi?

You might have to miss out for a bit, but once they start noticing a significant drop they'll move somewhere else. People with "public personalities" want to be seen and heard, they'll go where people can see and hear them.

[-] alkbch@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 months ago

I’m willing to miss out on a few of them if I can find most of them somewhere else.
