Yep, its because the original mod is gone, so there's no one who could add it. Adding a banner is entirely up to you, lots of communities don't have them.

I study mostly therevada also. But ya I agree, Buddhism doesn't (or its adherents shouldn't) have the same sectarianism that some other religions do, so we can be willing to learn from all branches.
