Ah yes, California's penal legion of ~~slaves~~ "indentured servants" that we uh... voted to keep around in the last election.
Man, CA politics are fucking bizarre. Sometimes the slam dunk no-brainer propositions fail and there never seems to be a really good reason why.
Money, and liberals.
California is liberal. Not left. Every once in a while some leftist proposition comes up that threatens money, and money always wins.
When they say liberals are wolves in sheep's clothing, this is kinda what they're talking about. They care, they really care about their fellow man, as far as their comfortable standard of living allows.

Lots, but currently pretty fucking infuriating to see cops get an increase of 160 million, while the fire department gets ~17 million cut. But I guess it balances out if they use those police to build an indentured class that they can pay next to nothing to fight the fires instead!

See part of why I have so much of a gripe with liberals is this sort of mentality here. California is one of the most solidly blue states in the country. Since you didn't defend it on the merits, it seems you agree the choice I described in my post was not great, correct? But instead of realizing that it may be possible that rich politicians from your team are not actually on your side, you just defer to nebulous 'ancient laws' that apparently make it impossible for helpful choices in, and lets be clear here, a city deciding it's own budget. Care to point to the federal and/or state laws that just hamstring the benevolent liberals of LA and force them to increase the police budget by 160 million dollars? Laws that apparently can't be challenged, or circumvented by the liberals in those positions, since they would certainly do so if they could, right??

It looks like the entire state was ignorant or misled by deliberately confusing wording. Down ballot voters were more likely to check "no". Had they used the word slavery in the measure it would have more likely have passed like it did in a variety of other states that, wait for it, are liberal

Im not really sure which part youre confused about. The law that has existed since the 1800s, how ballot measures are worded in "legalese" so theyre difficult to understand, or that neolibs are republicans wearing democrat skin?

Its like having an idealistic sibling you for the most part agree with and defend that goes goes behind your back trying to sow discord to your other siblings for seemingly no other reason but to pump up their own ego.

Neoliberals are DINOs. They are part of the ruling class with the far right republicans. They are not the same as regular people with liberal views who's only power is to vote, volunteer and donate. In fact I would argue that leftists are typically liberal. Youre not winning hearts and minds with this crybaby shit
