Literally, I see this, oh, 7 is releasing? I should start playing 6....

[-] hakase@lemm.ee 17 points 3 months ago

I'll still be playing 4 for the foreseeable future.

Tried 6, ended back up on 5. I prefer the simplicity of 5.

Yeah, it took me long enough to get used to the changes in 5, I like the game and am somewhat inclined to stick with it.

If you want something Civ 5-like on mobile, check out Unciv. Its an open source and using Civ 5 as a template. https://yairm210.itch.io/unciv

I played both so maybe I'm confusing the rulesets but I thought it was Civ V. Totally possible I am wrong though.

It's also possible I'm wrong, I never played the games before CIV6 (or not enough to learn them), but on Fdroid it's described as an "Open source 4X civilization-building game" which I assumed means it's a CIV4 clone.

Either way, it's a good game - one of the best open source mobile games for sure.

"4X" is the genre. I'm going to give it a try!

[-] AlpacaChariot@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

I had no idea, thanks!

For other unenlightened lemmings:

4X is apparently an abbreviation of "Explore, Expand, Exploit, Exterminate"

6 was free on epic games a few years back and it was recently on sale on steam for just a few dollars.

I picked it up on steam for the Linux version and it was pretty addicting. I never get games dlc and I don’t think I’m good enough at the base game to take advantage of the different things the dlc adds.

If you want to get good at civ games, you can check Marbozir on youtube. The guy is a genius at it and you quickly pick up the way in which you should think about the strategy and resources. And he's very entertaining to boot.
