Did the first post about this not go well enough for the transphobes? You had to try again?

It's really fuckin easy, if someone says, "these are my pronouns", you use them.

Accepting literally anything means the attack helicopter meme should be taken seriously.

[-] Maggoty@lemmy.world 11 points 3 months ago

Some drunk dude with a blue lives punisher tattoo calling themselves something and laughing obviously isn't in good faith. No matter what words they choose.

[-] breakingcups@lemmy.world 18 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Should I still use the pronouns they want me to? Or are they an exception?

[-] Maggoty@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago

Considering the actual pronoun in question is "drag", yes.

[-] spankmonkey@lemmy.world 15 points 3 months ago

The drag poster who is the troll that started the whole thing literally posted a meme about being accepting of the attack helicopter meme in that thread!

So you do want someone to be the arbiter of what is acceptable for how someone lives their lives... you just want it to coincide with your thoughts on the matter.

[-] Maggoty@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

How do you even get to that from saying we should call people what they want to be called? You keep trying to make this about some kind of imposition on you but it's really not.

[-] AngryishHumanoid@reddthat.com 10 points 3 months ago

I mean, a troll came in and said drag should be a pronoun. You gleefully picked up the torch and started arguing it for them, it kinda feels like you were looking for an excuse to argue this.

Happy to call someone a real pronoun. He/him she/her they and any combination of those.

I will no call someone a dragon. Nor will I call them anything else like that.

[-] StupidBrotherInLaw@lemmy.world 20 points 3 months ago

Good for you being the arbitrator of what is acceptable for how other people live their lives. That's sure a big responsibility! Running with your example, I'm now using the only two pronouns I feel comfortable using for people like you: gobshite/broomstick.

[-] hightrix@lemmy.world 22 points 3 months ago

Gobshite and broomstick are names. You can call me them if you’d like, but that’s not my name.

[-] StupidBrotherInLaw@lemmy.world 13 points 3 months ago

Look at broomstick over here. Gobshite actually thinks that language rules are immutable instead of a consensus amongst users! Gobshite is silly and clearly lacks any linguistics knowledge, but the most ignorant are often the most confident.

[-] hightrix@lemmy.world 13 points 3 months ago

Yeah. Look at that broomstick!!

No one know who you are talking about because those names aren’t referring to anyone specifically.

I’ve try though. High five.

[-] Aqarius@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago

Gobshite is silly and clearly lacks any linguistics knowledge, but the most ignorant are often the most confident.

Shouldn't that be "Gobshite are silly and clearly lack any linguistics knowledge"?

[-] StupidBrotherInLaw@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago

It's really up to broomstick, but gobshite already gave us carte blanche to use our personal pronoun preferences on others. I'm going to say it's at the user's discretion.

[-] hightrix@lemmy.world 15 points 3 months ago

I do appreciate the entertainment.

These comments are making my point better than I could.

Thanks for the support.

[-] Maggoty@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago

The pronoun in question is Drag. You're thinking about the name, which is no more ridiculous than Richard.

[-] hightrix@lemmy.world 18 points 3 months ago

Drag is a name. If that’s what someone wants to be called, that’s fine but it isn’t a pronoun.

[-] yuri@pawb.social 8 points 3 months ago

this community is getting really gross.

[-] Maggoty@lemmy.world 9 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

I think it's the mismatch between Reddit and Lemmy. Yeah the mods screw up sometimes but it's nowhere near the quantity of Reddit. So they're trying to bring any ban into this community, even tiny cooling off period ones.

This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Posting Guidelines

All posts should follow this basic structure:

  1. Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
  2. What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
  3. Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
  4. Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
  5. Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.

Rules

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.
