Is there any difference between the versions on different app stores, GitHub releases, etc.? I know some apps use Google push services on Google Play but not on F-Droid and stuff like that.

Nope. It's the same exact version at the moment (between GitHub, Google Play, and f-droid).

Google push service support is not bundled, and if you'd like to have push notification support, you need to install a UnifiedPush distributor, with gCompat UP-Distributor being the easiest.
