Discord’s New Age Verification uses AI and Your Face!
This is a most excellent place for technology news and articles.
You know, revolt exists. Matrix is good but it isn't the same experience as discord. Revolt is a pretty good open source copy of discord.
Am I the only one who absolutely hates Discord's UI & UX? It's obtuse and bloated.
In what way?
Every way. It's just a confusing mess. It looks like one of those early 2k websites with a gazzilion animated gifs and whatnot. The layout is full of unnecessary padding and channels and other bullshit features. Not even starting on the fact that it always wants me to get my password and do a two factor authentification + captcha on every visit, or that it does not seem to be able to detect my audio devices properly.
I don't see any animations at all unless someone has posted a gif. Channels are a core feature, as on many similar platforms.
If it's continually giving you issues with devices and authentication, it's probably due to a misconfiguration in your browser, e.g. you have it set to clear cookies on exit, or you have device access permission blocked.
It happens with the actual app as well. So no. And other apps have no problems identifying my audio devices. This is simply a common issue with Discord on Linux, among many others that they don't bother fixing.
Matrix's protocol with revolt's UI is what we need
And Signal's SMS feature. I'd love to gradually move my contacts over to something else, and being able to convince one at a time to switch their SMS client would make that so much easier.
I used to run a Revolt server 3 years ago. The sound quality was beyond any other WebRTC service I had tried, but it was still in an early and it was lacking a lot of features. So, I switched to Element and Jitsi.
I see people posting that self hosting revolt is challenging but possible. Shit this might replace matrix
