One of r/InterestingAsFuck’s rules is “No politics,” which a moderator for the subreddit told us is the reason it was removed.

That is such a stupid rule, because everything is politics.

[-] orrk@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

that's some literal communist thinking there mate.

[-] LePoisson@lemmy.world 37 points 1 week ago

I don't think you know the definition of the words "literal" and "communism" if that's what you think.

[-] orrk@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

I guess the idea of material reality isn't part of communism, good to know.

[-] spujb@lemmy.cafe 28 points 1 week ago

i don’t know if you noticed what site you are on, most people here are at the very least friendly with the notion of communism even if you were right about this

[-] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 21 points 1 week ago

And they aren't right, to be clear.

[-] orrk@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

they may be friendly with the notion of communism, but apparently don't know much about communist ideology, because according to dialectical materialism, yes everything is political, from where you work, what you have/use, the food on your plate, and even the thoughts you think are all inherently tied to politics as politics is the ordering of society, and society is a core and indispensable part of the human condition

[-] KairuByte@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 1 week ago

Can you list something non political?

You don’t think farming is political? O.o

[-] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 4 points 1 week ago

I speak of the Platonic ideal of broccoli, please don't sully it with your crude materialism.

[-] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 week ago

Who came up with this ideal? Why did they define it like that? Are there better ways to define broccoli? Why do we call it broccoli? What's the meaning of politics and therefore political? Who... Fuck.

[-] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 2 points 1 week ago

1: Some Italian I guess. 2: Because it be like that. 3: No. 4: Italians speak funny. 5: Everything but broccoli. 6: Anyone that consents as long as you don't hurt nobody.

[-] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 20 points 1 week ago

Farm subsidies, ad subsidies for that sector, pesticide use and regulation for vegetables, labor laws for harvesting, etc. etc.

[-] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 2 points 1 week ago

Just broccoli. That other stuff is the politics surrounding the pure form.

[-] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

If you don't think food is political, you're not paying attention. 'Every society is three meals from chaos'

[-] dragonfucker@lemmy.nz 2 points 1 week ago

Anarchism. Anarchism is just people working together to topple unjust states with violence if need be. No need for voting or governments or corporations to get involved.

[-] ricecake@sh.itjust.works 19 points 1 week ago

Anarchism is literally a political philosophy. It's profoundly political.

[-] dragonfucker@lemmy.nz 1 points 1 week ago

Yeah, but it's less political than everything else drag can think of

[-] ricecake@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago

I'd actually say it's significantly more political than most. It's a philosophy about the nature of political and economic power.

It's hard to get more political than a political philosophy. About the only way is to find one whose proponents are particularly debate-y and prone to infighting, and fond of byzantine governing arrangements to avoid entrenched or coercive positions of power.

Anarchism is typically focused on opposition to coercive or involuntary ruling arrangements. It's beenpoliticized as being in favor of chaos by people on the powerful end of said arrangements.
Because they're against hierarchy, anarchist social arrangements typically require much more political involvement than others.

[-] dragonfucker@lemmy.nz 1 points 1 week ago

In drag's opinion, involving someone in politics without their knowledge or consent is more political than simply teaching them to value and engage with politics of their free will. The consent violation makes it more political.

Also in a liberal capitalist society, everything is politicised because everything costs money. In an anarchist society you just go to the grocer and take some food home. Under a capitalist regime, you have to exchange money backed by the state which represents a social construct of value exchange just to buy some bananas. It's weird.

[-] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Less political != Non political

Again, everything is politics.

[-] Lemminary@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago
[-] orrk@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

material conditions mean everything, every action you take, every opportunity you have, every thing you buy, literally all of it, is influenced by politics.

Politics is simply the organization of society, and as a human without society you have nothing, you would have to slave away for years just to make a standard no°2 pencil, and even that is influenced by politics because it takes a society to raise a person.
