I've also used a Mason jar with a lid for smaller amounts. Almost no smell, and you can shake it in the jar to stir too. Just take it outside or elsewhere before opening the jar. Also put it on a towel on the oven rack to cushion it.
I haven't thought of that idea. Actually, I might give it a try this weekend.
