Sadly, you often need to justify questions offline as well. It's just that people love gatekeeping and making fun of others if you show weakness or ignorance. On top of that, you can't convey tone as easily through text, so genuine misinterpretations are common. People also give hostile responses when others have asked the same question in bad faith.
