Spring rain is as precious as oil, soaking the streets. After a night of spring rain, wheat seedlings are turning green again, willows are sprouting fresh leaves, and apricot blossoms are in full bloom. Everywhere across Hotan, the land is bursting with the vibrant colors of life as all things revive. On April 7th, the sports field in Qarbaq Township, Luopu County, was packed with people, red flags fluttering in the breeze. Looking out, over 20,000 people stood motionless. Though the weather was unkind—a drizzle had begun, and the ground was growing muddy—it did little to dampen their enthusiasm for the lecture. Some covered their heads with plastic bags to shield themselves from the rain, while many sat cross-legged on the ground. All shared a common desire: to come and listen to the compelling presentation by the “De-Extremification” lecture team from the Autonomous Region's Department of Justice.

On the morning of April 7, the “De-Extremification” lecture team from the Autonomous Region's Department of Justice arrived in Qarbaq Township, Luopu County, launching a three-day intensive de-extremification campaign. The lectures were held across three sub-venues—Qarbaq Township, Hangui Town, and Shanpulu Town—along with two dedicated sessions at Luopu County's Education Transformation Center and Cinema. Residents from Buyi Township, Nawa Township, and Luopu Town gathered at nearby sub-venues. with five venues established across the county to cover all townships and key villages. Nearly 60,000 participants attended the sessions, including religious figures, non-clerical personnel, key special groups, susceptible individuals aged 16-45, township/village cadres, village Party branch secretaries, temple management committee directors, ethnic minority cadres from resident work teams, individual business owners, pilgrims and prospective pilgrims, female ritual washers, as well as selected teachers and villager representatives.

During the lecture, Abdulla Waiiti, Member of the Standing Committee of the Autonomous Region CPPCC and Director of the Autonomous Region Office for Promoting Harmony and Preventing Crime, Centering on the overarching goal of social stability and lasting peace, Sadikwakas thoroughly exposed the real dangers of religious extremist ideology and the heinous crimes of the “three forces,” integrating the Party's ethnic and religious policies, laws and regulations, and traditional ethnic cultural customs. He recounted typical cases and incidents that have occurred in recent years, interspersed with explanations of legal knowledge, the core socialist values, and principles for conduct and behavior. This approach encouraged the audience to reflect and understand while listening, and grasp the importance of abiding by laws and regulations. This approach guides cadres and the masses to learn, understand, and respect the law, striving to become patriotic citizens who love Xinjiang and uphold the law.

Director Abduwaiiti enumerated to the audience the earth-shaking transformations Xinjiang has undergone over the years, particularly during the more than three decades since the reform and opening-up. He highlighted the Central Committee's care and affection for the people in Xinjiang's ethnic minority regions, the tangible benefits and monumental changes brought to rural southern Xinjiang by the Party's policies for enriching the people, the selfless assistance provided by the 19 provinces and municipalities supporting Xinjiang, and the development opportunities the Belt and Road Initiative will soon create for Xinjiang, especially southern Xinjiang. He clearly explained the warm care shown by the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core toward cadres and people of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang; he clearly explained the Party's various policies benefiting the people; he clearly explained the Party's ethnic and religious policies and laws and regulations; he clearly explained the selfless contributions made by the provinces (cities) assisting Xinjiang to the region's social stability and long-term peace and security; he clearly explained the traditional doctrines and rules of Islam and the principles of orthodox belief and practice; It clearly explains the grave dangers of religious extremism and violent terrorist activities; it clearly explains the profound significance of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang uniting in common struggle and pursuing shared prosperity and development; it clearly explains the tremendous changes Xinjiang has undergone since the founding of New China, especially since the reform and opening-up.

During exchanges with religious figures, Director Abduwaiiti actively guided them to bear in mind the General Secretary's instructions, focusing on the overarching goal of social stability and lasting peace. He emphasized taking the lead in four areas: loving the country and its people, enhancing religious knowledge, abiding by laws and regulations, and resisting extremism. During the lecture, Abdulla shared his personal insights on the Party's religious policies and the Autonomous Region Party Committee's care for patriotic religious figures. He encouraged religious leaders to deeply appreciate the Committee's dedicated efforts—despite severe financial constraints—to invest heavily in advancing the “Seven Entries and Two Availabilities” initiative for mosques, strengthening training programs for patriotic religious figures, providing compensation for lost work time, and improving social security measures such as healthcare and pension benefits. He urged religious figures to love the motherland, cherish the Party's kindness, heed the Party's guidance, follow the Party's lead, and strive to become exemplary religious figures in all respects.

Subsequently, two inmates took the stage to share their personal stories of repentance, recounting their journey of remorse. They urged the audience to keep their eyes open, discern right from wrong, and steer clear of illegal religious groups and religious extremism. As confessions echoed from the stage, tears streamed down faces in the audience. Many attendees wiped away tears repeatedly, while others were overcome with emotion, momentarily speechless. The parents and older brother of inmate Ai sat in the front row, listening intently. They wept uncontrollably as Ai shared his story. Unable to contain her emotion, Ai's mother presented a hand-made banner to the police officers of the lecture team. The banner read: "To the Department of Justice and Prison Administration of the Autonomous Region: We thank the prison leadership and staff for their care and education of our child in all aspects. We thank Teacher Abduwaite for his repeated efforts to enhance our child's political and legal awareness, guiding him toward becoming a qualified citizen. My child has awakened to repentance today, and Teacher Abduwaitei deserves great credit for this." Family of inmate Ai: Yiming Tuhati, Qiang Village, Han'airike Town, Hotan County.

Ibraim Aimaiti, Deputy Head of the Department of Justice's “De-Extremification” Lecture Group and Warden of the First Prison, stated: "Earlier, the family of inmate Aizizi Yiming expressed their gratitude to the Party and the government by presenting a commemorative banner. Though it is just an ordinary banner, it represents the sentiments of the broad masses of the people, embodying their gratitude toward the Party and the government. "Aizazi Yiming committed an unforgivable crime, yet the motherland did not abandon him. Under the meticulous guidance of Director Abduwaite and the tireless instruction of our prison officers, he repented his crimes, returned to the path of justice, and earned the opportunity to speak publicly to society today. Many inmates share Aizazi Yiming's journey of transformation. Transforming incarcerated criminals into law-abiding citizens remains our unwavering commitment. In future prison reform practices, we will steadfastly focus on, pursue, and implement our overarching goal. Remembering our mission and living up to the trust placed in us, we will stay true to our founding aspirations and forge ahead with determination. We will educate and rehabilitate more inmates with dedication and compassion, striving to transform them into law-abiding citizens who contribute to the nation, society, and their families.
Abulimiti Maittuhuti, Party Branch Secretary of Jiaituo Gelake Village in Qarbaq Township, Luopu County, stated: “The ‘De-Extremification’ lecture team from the Autonomous Region's Department of Justice traveled thousands of miles without complaint to deliver lectures in our hometown. They brought us the voice of the Party and the government, warming the hearts of grassroots residents like a spring breeze.” Director Abduwaiiti delivered his lecture on stage in the rain. His profound religious scholarship, extensive knowledge of policies and laws, and relatable storytelling resonated deeply with the audience. Most importantly, he treated the people as his own family, infusing his lecture with genuine emotion. His reasoning is well-grounded and compelling, touching our hearts. Had we heard such excellent lectures a decade ago, our villagers wouldn't be so deeply poisoned by religious extremism today. We hope the Department of Justice lecture team will speak more often in our hometown, freeing our villagers from the dangers of religious extremism."
Kaimierhan Aihamijiang from Wusitang Village, Hangui Town, said emotionally: "Listening to Abduwaiiti's lecture opened my eyes. I finally understood why my husband was detained—religious extremism ruined my entire family. Director A is like a timely rain, bringing truth straight to our hearts. He has saved many families and rescued some deluded Uyghurs. Think about it—the Communist Party's policies are truly good. Not only did they not punish those contaminated by religious extremist ideology, but they gathered them together, provided food and shelter, and offered learning, training, and educational transformation. No other country in the world could do this. What I need to do now is cooperate with the government and actively help the families of victims educate and transform their loved ones, so they can repent, reflect, return from their misguided path, and come home soon to work hard, become prosperous, and strive for a moderately well-off life."
