Hello fellow indie developers! πŸ‘‹

I am currently developing A Survival Game, a chaotic 2D survival experience that combines cards, choices, strategy, and permadeath. The core idea is simple: every decision has consequences, and the chaos is part of the fun.

In my latest update, I introduced a new twist:

The bunker can now be invaded by a strange creature known as the Blat Choice πŸ¦€.

These crab-like creatures roam back and forth relentlessly, adding pressure and unpredictability to survival runs.

I also shortened the map, improved visual feedback and performance, and polished animations to make gameplay more dynamic and engaging.

πŸ“Œ You can check out the game here: [https://danielgamedev14.itch.io/a-survival-game]

I would really appreciate feedback from other devs, especially regarding:

How well the new creature design works in terms of gameplay tension.

Thoughts on balancing chaos and strategy in survival-based games.

General impressions on performance and pacing.

Thanks for reading, and I’d love to hear your thoughts! πŸ™

The client had a vague idea that revolved around a fox sitting on a leaf. Their next games will be more spooky in nature (in a cute and whimsical way), so they would like the design to reflect that.

I came up with a few concepts and they really liked this one, since it incorporated everything that they were looking for.

It's a simple game where you abduct as many cows as you can while avoiding getting spotted by humans.

The client wanted the cover to be inspired by retro arcade games such as Space Invaders.

This is just a mock up where I was manually driving the camera.

I'm trying to figure if this is the right direction to go and if I should keep angling towards this 'noir' style.

I designed this logo and splash screen for a client's game called Grass. It's a cozy game with Palm Spring vibes where you mow grass with a mower.

They wanted something simpler and more artsy based on the screenshots that they provided.

Its happening! (midwest.social)

... I had 5 notable issues flagged. Some of them decently simple, others problematic to fix.

Here are all the ones I got flagged on (poorly summarized) in case you want to keep an eye out for them:

  • Resolution is set and saved per device (correct) but UI, Inventory, and Dialogue UI scale is synced to clouded save file. This means setting a larger UI on the SteamDeck yields a larger UI on the desktop with the same save (probably not what you want)

  • Game uses first gamepad assigned, so if you use an external controller to the SteamDeck, the built-in controls aren't recognized. (Or at least in my case, are recognized as a local splitscreen player)

  • Clicking on the edit name option within the character editor doesn't automatically bring up the on-screen keyboard.

  • There is no default gamepad binding for switching cameras.

  • Screen resolution is stuck on Steam Deck's native resolution and cannot be changed. (This is technically ok)

They don't look quite right but they're getting there?

Hi all,

I've been working on a side-project after needing something to handle UIs for a game I work on, and came up with InputLayers, which is basically a layer-based filtering system for Input handling.

My main issue was having a clean and consistent way to handle taking input availability away from something (a character, UI, or anything else) when something should take over (a menu opening, a popup, etc.)

So I ended up using this as an opportunity to learn the new Unity UI system, and set up a clean editor window. In the end, it was close enough to a packageable asset, that I felt it'd be cool to make it available to others!

It's free, so if anyone wants to give it a try, I'd love some feedback =)

I've been learning development in Godot for a few weeks, and I'm building a little old-school rage game to go along with my lessons.

I'm getting to the point where I'm doing things that are complex enough that I'm convinced I'm learning things incorrectly - or at least inefficiently.

Do you guys struggle with this? It feels pretty typical of my learning experiences, but I've never really asked about it before. Maybe I'm learning things wrong.

If anyone wants to take a look at my project, I've got it on itch, here. I love feedback.

Just keep in mind that it's a WIP and that I've only been coding since February 8.

Thank you!
