I wish to switch over to Linux but the only machine l have at my disposal is my brother's laptop when it's free. It's a windows 10 machine. The only way l can work on Linux is by creating a virtual system on this machine.

Does QEMU help me achieve that ?

I have this hp pavilion laptop from 2010, which cannot browse most of today's websites. I wondered to what use can l put it, considering l have no knowledge of computers. I brought up this question on lemmy, and the universal answer l got was self hosting. To be honest, that word is completely new to me. So I looked up the word on the internet, and l discovered this site, which l found very helpful as a beginner.

With this machine in hand, could l possibly go about experimenting with the DNS ?

As in this picture, l don't want to remain a sender/recipient, but an address in itself. So that l can house multiple senders/recipients.

Would that be possible ?

What is self hosting ? (media.piefed.ca)

I have a 10 year old laptop of very low specs. I had given a detailed description of the specs and made a post regarding the use to which it can be put, and more or less everyone pointed to self hosting.

Now, if the machine is powerful enough, why not put it to some productive use ??

And so l'm exploring an unknown territory.

And it also contains certain links worth exploring.

Internet shutdowns are devastating for human rights. We can’t rely on tech oligarchs to save us, especially when these same companies and governments are the ones to sever our access to the internet and telecommunications. This is why it's important to set up communication mechanisms before a disaster happens.
