Hello everyone.

My mom asked me to search a new phone for her. She wanted a decentish camera and a good mic. I also know she is not a techgeek (hence why i am searching for her) so the support from fairphone waked my interest. So before i recommend her the phone what do you guys think of it

Using the FP5 with Android 13. Any hidden Settings or stuff that I should need to know about its Android? Should I switch to LineageOS instead? Is there a way for me to have all my Apps on my Homescreen instead of tucked away in that hidden menu if you swipe up? Is there a way to modify what is seen on the button row of the Homescreen? Normally I'd like to have 3 fixed App icons there but there are 5 which I can't remove and they keep changing. Is there a way to remove the calender widget or search bar in the top of the home screen?

If someone calls me, I can take the call normally. If I dial the number from the infotainment of my car, the call will take place normally.

If I start the call from my phone, the following happens:
It will create the connection, you hear one tone, then the display of the infotainment system says "being terminated" and the call goes to my phone. Here I need to deactivate bluetooth to take the call, otherwise I cannot talk or listen on either phone or infotainment.

I think this happened after Android 13 update, but maybe I fiddled in some settings as well.

I am desperate. Btw, I can use the infotainment calls from an Android phone. So it is more unlikely that the infotainment is at fault.

What never worked is joining Teams calls, I never figured that one out as well.

The performance of my FP4 seems to be on a continual steady decline resulting in a growing list of issues and compromises that I am living with because I WANT to like the phone. Is anyone else having a similar experience?

Here are my issues and concerns off the top of my head: -phone has recently started getting stuck when unlocking. It's still running as music will keep playing and notifications will come up on my smart watch but the screen gets stuck as a black glow or a freeze of the app that was last running. Only way out is to force a reboot with the power button, or in some cases take the battery out. I've had this happen up to 3 times in an hour before. -wifi is awful. No other devices struggle with it but I spend more time with the WiFi turned off when I'm at home than I do with it on. It works ok for a short while then it completely stops working. Switching to 4/5g brings back the internet -bluetooth connection issues with a range of devices including the Fairphone earbuds, mostly with car systems. In recent days the Bluetooth seems to have started turning itself off, including while listening to music on the headphones. -camera quality. This is more of a gripe that an issue. When I bought the phone I was accepting of a lower quality camera for the ethical and environmental benefits, but the images are grainy and the wide angle lense often results in a rainbow watermark like effect. The contrast when a photo from this phone is on my desktop wallpaper slideshow next to one from my previous phone taken 5 years ago is stark.

I'm at the point of suffering constant low level frustration when using my phone which is getting tiring. As I said, I WANT to love the phone for all the right reasons but I'm close to falling back to a "standard" phone from one of the mainstream manufacturers.

Anyone else suffering similarly, and does anyone have any tips to keep me on the wagon?

Hi! So not sure if this is a phone setting or a provider mistake. I'm trying to reach a French number, calling from the NL. I hear: 'this number cannot be reached/is not in use'. But using another phone with another provider, I can reach the French number. Weird huh? What is wrong?

FP4, I'm trying to restart it (turning it off and on), but when I push the power button it will just give me Google Assistant! Aargh! What am I doing wrong?

Also, I received an international call, and when I'm trying to call back it says number not in use. How do I fix that?

I have a Fairphone 5 running the latest build of Murena's /e/ OS, and I can't get it to pair with my Moto 360 Gen 3. Every time I try to pair it via the Wear OS app, the process times out and I get an error that says "Cannot complete setup" at the top, then "can't update your watch" and it tells me to reset.

I had the watch paired with my Fairphone 4 running iodéOS, but it took some trick involving pairing with the Chinese and US-based versions of the Wear OS app in a specific order. I have a copy of the Wear OS China app, but trying to pair with it gives me an error saying that I can't use it outside of China. I've been trying to find the guide I used for this originally, but literal hours of searching has turned up nothing.

I'm about at my wits' end here. Any thoughts on what I can do get this damn thing working with my new phone? Even unpaired, I can get wifi debugging working, if that will help!

I enjoy not pressing buttons for locking the screen and used to double press home buttons for that after it stopped working on my last phone. I want to continue using a gesture or command to do that with the accessibility settings on android 13 but the menu gets disabled after locking. I tried to disable battery saver mode first but that did not yield. Any tips to permanently enable accessibility settings?

Hi, owner of a Fairphone5, my colour theme is changing, and I don't want that all of a sudden all the buttons become greenish, but there is no option to disable this, at least not that I've found

My FP4 has been switching off and restarting during use. I've tried disabling 5G as the advice on this sub says the problem is caused by switching between 4G and 5G bands, however this has not solved the problem. Rather the restarts seem to happen when physically moving the phone, most commonly when putting it down on a table, putting it in or taking it out of my pocket, and occasionally when just rotating it between portrait and landscape in my hands. This leads me to think there might be a problem with electrical contact between the phone's modules - does anyone have insight as to which module I should replace?

Will the FP5 have a headphone jack finally? Any word on a release date?

Hi! Recently my Fairphone 4 got lost so I need to replace it.

I've been quite happy with Fairphone not only because I'm clumsy as hell and in the year I had it, I already replaced the screen once, but also because I don't really want to support anything that's not sustainable.

But in the other hand, I'm for now using my previous phone, the Cat S42, another device I was really happy and only changed it when the specs started to be so outdated that opening any app was taking several minutes and when it was crucial to read QR codes in the pandemic, with that crappy camera was pretty much impossible.

So now I'm debating between getting a Fairphone 5 vs a Cat s75. My main focus is sustainability, followed by memory and battery.

For how I see it, Fairphone has the big pro of having more "consumer friendly" specs, including the memory, but it's a bit pricy and in the end making it modular doesn't means it will last more, but that you'll need to pay less if something breaks. And it feels I'm paying some fee just to say I'm an eco guy.

In the other hand, Cat might be a bit less consumer friendly, but it's really built to last and I'll not need to spend a penny if it just simply never breaks, plus living in Finland makes the temperature resistance quite an interesting thing as in a bad winter we can reach -30 (and for my own experience, it's not fun when it's -20 and the battery starts to drain super fast and you need your phone for google maps/bus ticket/etc). And is slightly cheaper.

To say so, I need to pick between 2 phones I loved, so it seems a bit like with Fairphone I'm paying too much branding and with Cat I'm paying too much for "military specs" that become irrelevant when the GPU can't handle the software anymore.

Hello, thinking about buying FP5, though I wondered if it supports display output over USB-C, when I searched for it I only found that FP4 does have the support. Can anybody confirm that 5 has it too? Additionaly if androids default desktop mode also works?

Since today, the play/pause button on my JBL Club One suddenly stopped working with my Fairphone 4. Its working with other devices. Yesterday it was working fine.
I followed this Bluetooth troubleshooting guide, but the problem still persist in Safe Mode. Resetting storage and connection settings did not work.
Yesterday, two native apps updated: Google and SIM Manager. Both of those are also active in Safe Mode. Could either one of those be the issue? Nothing else has changed since I used the headphones yesterday.
Or does anyone else have an idea how to solve this issue?

Thanks in advance!

Software quality is terrible and every OS version upgrade brings a new grab bag of worse bugs.

  • A11 had some annoyances like quick toggles turning black or non-working screen after importing settings from an OLED phone with always-on-display
  • A12 had bugs that broke important functionalty: Screen can only go to 30% maximum brightness if it's slightly warm outside, Hotspot and Tethering don't work, GPS sometimes doesn't work when Android Auto is used, Screen sometimes goes black for a few seconds if you receive a notification and a few other issues
  • A13 straight-up bricks the phone on a failed update and freezes/reboots if you dare to use 5G

These bugs usually don't get fixed until the next OS upgrade happens where Google rewrote that part of the software.

The hardware has a few hardware errors, like the touch not working correctly (ghost touches/unresponsive) or the speakers rattling like a snaredrum. Shouldn't be much of an issue, the phone is modular so it shouldn't be hard to fix the flaw and offer the fixed version of that component in their shop (or if they really had integrity, replace these parts on warranty). Instead, they keep selling the broken parts! And their warranty is not worth much at all either.

Support is basically inexistent. Of all the times I wrote them to report bugs, not a single time did they have any response other than "our experts will look into it". Even if I give them a working bugfix, they just ignore it and don't fix the bugs.

This is the first time ever that I wouldn't be sad if my phone dies a tragic death.

Does anyone have ideas for where could I get a really panzer, durable protective case for a Fairphone 5? I don't mean slightly bumped edges and slightly tougher plastic, I mean a full balls-to-the-wall kinda case like Juggernaut Case for Samsungs and iPhones or older iBlason cases fo Samsung Actives (recently they quality dropped at least for newer flagship Samsungs) with huge bumpers and built-in screen protector. I do a lot of urbex and I have side gigs on industrial sites, so it has to be really durable and protective.

It was a big clunky but I wiped my phone, factory reset and seems much better now. Only issue is that I can't set my wallpaper.

Ever since the latest Android update, there has been a consistent issue that has been bugging me. There is a simple way around it, but it is starting to be highly frustrating:

  1. Playing a game in landscape mode.
  2. Power saver turns screen off and locks the phone after a bit of inactivity
  3. Unlock the phone from the fingerprint scanner.
  4. Screen turns on right in the game, but only one half of it responds to touch. If i touch and drag on the responsive side, i can still drag on the unresponsive side, but the unresponsive side does not respond to touches.
Only way out of this is to A) pull up the navigation bar and go to main view or B) pushing the unlock button and setting a code. So in both cases I need to first have the screen be in portrait mode before all of the screen works in landscape.

So in my not at all technical brain, the new update changed some sort of screen activation order to where it now doesnt activate the whole screen if it immediately opens to landscape? Has anyone found a *working* fix to this that isnt just "add extra steps to normal phone usage"? Like an actual bug fix?

OH and this is on the FP4.
