Publisher tinyBuild has announced that the indie single player first-person shooter game FEROCIOUS will be released on December 4 for PC via Steam.

FEROCIOUS, powered by Unity, is the debut game of OMYOG, a small studio that features the expertise of both AAA game and film veterans. Leonard Saalfrank, inspired by King Kong, leads the vision, while Mark, ex-Far Cry and Battlefront II director, brings sandbox-level design expertise. Writers like Jörg Ihle and Dominik Hochwald add narrative depth from film, games, and theme parks.

Coming out of a party, our unnamed protagonist is tasked with arriving home. We have our finals tomorrow, you see. Being there and awake is a question of life and death. When the last bus on line 39 passes by without stopping for us, we’ll end up resorting to less conventional methods for coming back home.

We’re in a risky part of town, too. What could go wrong?

It’s a simple set-up with a simple premise. I can’t say the narrative itself is the strong suit of El 39. Rather, the game’s strong point resides in its beautiful atmosphere.

How will this little mouse prevail?

The nights are getting darker, and the air is getting colder as we approach the winter months in the UK, and all I want to do after a long day of studying is to kick back and play one of my cozy games. One that has seemed to have arrived at the perfect time is Winter Burrow, a woodland survival indie game where you take control of a mouse trying to survive the harsh winter in his rundown family burrow. You’ll rebuild what’s left of it to create your own home, whilst venturing out into the wilderness to scavenge for resources and help others along the way. The presentation and vibes of this indie are immaculate and make for a cozy classic.

The history of the game Zork is a long and winding one, starting with MUDs and kin on university mainframes – where students entertained themselves in between their studies – and ending with the game being ported to home computers. These being pathetically undersized compared to even a PDP-10 meant that Zork got put to the axe, producing Zork I through III. Originally distributed by Infocom, eventually the process of Microsoft gobbling up game distributors and studios alike meant that Microsoft came to hold the license to these games. Games which are now open source as explained on the Microsoft Open Source blog.

A game for C64, CPlus/4 and VIC20

Lala wanted to be a witch by all means, so she entered the Great Witch Academy, led by Mistress Morgana la Marrana, who admited her ‘cause she didn’t have any pupils because of the worldwide crisis. Morgana herself teached the very first basics of magic and sorcery to Lala, who was not a very good student. One day, Morgana ran out of chipped man bile, so she went to the supermarket to buy some and Lala had to stay on her own in the academy with all those machines and magic filters to her disposal. She began trying some spells, and as nothing happened, she just opened the windows so to freshen the air. But before she could be aware, all the pots with magical filters and chemicals flew off thru’ the window scattering all around the surroundings.

SuperTuxKart 1.5 release (blog.supertuxkart.net)

SuperTuxKart’s 1.5 is now available!

SuperTuxKart now offers the possibility to mark tracks and karts as favorites. Marked with a heart, favorites are automatically shown first for quicker selection and are also available in a dedicated tab.

Several audio improvements are also present. The improved sound scale allows headphone users to easily pick the ideal sound level. In-race, the switch powerup sound is global to help players avoid bad surprises, while some issues related to the pause menu (some sounds playing during pauses, and the last-lap music sometimes missing) have been resolved.
Favorite tracks

Game graphics have also seen progress, with several changes bringing improved visuals for negligible performance cost. This is supported by several code changes alleviating inefficiencies in the game’s graphics loop, helping performance in complex tracks.

For example, the game now uses x16 anisotropic filtering on all but the lowest settings, getting rid of the blur often present with x2 and x4 filtering for a barely measurable FPS drop of 1-2 %.

Improved level of details (LoD) and shadow mapping logic allow to significantly reduce the occurrence of distracting pop-in, or effectively eliminate it using new higher settings. Several shaders have also been fixed or improved to provide better image quality.

Parachute and Bubblegums come with a new nicer spawn animation, and karts in night tracks can make use of a new spotlight lighting effect.

Still, some new options are meant for users with discrete GPUs and performance to spare : 1.5 offers 2048 resolution shadows, percentage-closer soft shadows, and even the option to render at a higher-than-native resolution, improving finer details.

The built-in frame-limiter can also be configured by the player. Instead of always being at 120, it can be set as low as 30 and as high as 1000.

Aeruta Review (www.nettosgameroom.com)

Aeruta is an action-platformer baking-sim game where you play as a cute fox girl. That is pretty much the sentence that sold me on trying this game out; I had no idea what to really make of it, and the pictures looked appealing, so when I got the chance to review this game for the blog, I jumped right in.

Curiously looking at the Steam storefront for the game to see what I'm up for, I saw the adorable-looking sprite-work for the game, and the... honestly, quite abysmal description. The description is filled with mistranslations, doesn't really explain the game well at all, and doesn't really do the game any favors. Not the greatest first impression, I must say.

So what actually is Aeruta? Well, in Aeruta you play Chaya, a fox adventurer in training. Chaya was sent by the Adventurers' Guild on a trial mission to retrieve the titular Aeruta Crystals, and in doing so, she can finally become a full-fledged Adventurer and achieve her dream.
