Ok, this post is a bit different. There is an article that claims that crypto and NFTs are reshaping indie gaming. In my opinion, this is wrong on so many levels. I am mostly rambling here, writing down my thoughts on it. I am pissed that they present crypto and indie gaming as a match made in heaven.

It compares Crypto with the DIY culture of modding and emulation. Which I call utter bullshit, modding, and emulation are usually done for free; yes, there have been cases where it has been monetized, but come on, any examples of games using crypto have been done purely for monetization and speculation. They claim that the problem with NFTs was that they were ugly and overpriced, which, while true, is not the main problem with NFTs. The concern is they are a scam. When you buy something, you do not own it; you just own a link that can die at any moment. Links are not permanent, and also nothing is stopping the NFT creator from selling the same link to someone else. They do not offer any digital ownership; anything you can do with NFTs you can do without them.

The article also thinks bitcoin casinos are a great idea. It cites Australia as a great example because Bitcoin can bypass regulations. Casinos? That is gambling, not gaming. How is that helping indie games or games other than just helping them to get addicted to gambling?

There is a lot more crap in this article about smart contracts and not having banks involved. Lots of buzz words. I think it is kind of weird to see such an article now. I thought this shit had mostly died off, but I guess there is always someone who still thinks crypto is a good idea and tries to convince others to invest in it. Link

Being the largest digital delivery service for PC games, Steam has to deal with its fair share of fraud attempts and sketchy content. A particularly nasty occurrence is related to games or even game prototypes that are stolen from indie developers and repackaged to be sold on Valve's massively popular platform.
