I was a student in the 1970s. I distinctly remember discussions about computers. They were going to make our lives easier, and everyone would have more free time. Maybe there would be a three-day work week for everyone — and leisure time to pursue other interests that enrich lives. Instead, the gap between the rich and the poor has gotten greater.
I seem to remember Chomsky talking about how manufacturing was carried out in the way it was set up - it's not exactly a law of nature that work has to be deskilled and only the managerial class get all the money.
So it's not surprising if LLMs and other kinds of automation further accelerate the assumptions already made about how wealth should be distributed.
