Getting a fairphone 6 with /e/OS is one of them, besides a few snags I'm really happy with it.

The other is getting a henry vacuum cleaner. They're affordable, strong, insanely repairable, look cute, and are made in the UK by unionised workers which is nearly unheard of these days. I probably sound like a shill but it's nice when the more ethical/local option happens to be one of the better options anyway if you weren't considering considering those things.

Fairphone 6 with e/OS. Couldn't be more satisfied!

Out of curiosity, since Iโ€™ve also been looking to buy one, you still have Google services on it or?

[-] ctry21@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 weeks ago

I just got one as well, it uses MicroG to replace Google Play Services. Works really well, there aren't any apps I use on my fairphone that didn't work on my old S24 besides contactless payments. I just stick my card in my case or you can use Curve to replace Google Wallet/Pay.

[-] DreasNil@feddit.nu 2 points 2 weeks ago

You can if you want to. I don't.

[-] jnod4@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago

Are you able to bank on ur mobile?

[-] DreasNil@feddit.nu 1 points 2 weeks ago

Yup! No issues whatsoever with the apps.

Well, I don't have contactless payment actually, but I got the phone case where you can fit 3 cards and it works perfectly.

[-] mikedd@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Oh sweet! So just f-droid? Aurora? ๐Ÿค”

[-] NiekH@social.vivaldi.net 1 points 2 weeks ago

@mikedd @DreasNil

It has its own app store, which is a fork of Aurora iirc. But you can download Aurora and F-droid.

[-] mikedd@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Cool, thanks!

I am looking to switch off my very non-updated Xperia 5II when I have the money.

Do banking apps work with /e/?

Also how is the camera latency? One thing I love about my xperia 5ii is the high shutter speed being able to open the camera app and snap a picture of my dog before she moves.

My girlfriend's A52 can't often boot the camera and take a picture without completely smearing it due to the low shutter speed or multiple exposures.

I found a good dutch hot sauce that tastes really good.

[-] Obi@sopuli.xyz 4 points 2 weeks ago

You did? Which one? I'm interested.

[-] maam@feddit.uk 2 points 2 weeks ago

I got the Nando's Medium PERi-PERi Sauce for 5.54 euros in British Columbia.

[-] OhNoMoreLemmy@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 weeks ago

I mean Nando's was originally a South African company, and now it's just a big multinational. Not sure what they have to do with the Netherlands though.

[-] Obi@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 weeks ago

I only ever saw them in the UK, didn't even know it was originally from SA, certainly never in NL that's for sure.

[-] maam@feddit.uk 1 points 2 weeks ago

The bottle I got was made in the Netherlands.

[-] Obi@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 weeks ago

Don't think that's Dutch but thanks for getting back to me!

Switched from gmail to proton, from google maps to Mapy.com (and open street maps more in general), from windows to Linux (on a refurbished - unfortunately American - laptop), switched from Microsoft office to LibreOffice, from Uber to Bolt, largely from ChatGPT to LeChat (Mistral) and Lumo (Proton), from google translate to DeepL, from google chrome to Vivaldi.

Looking into buying an (used) Nothing Phone 2a from a local refurbish store.

[-] raincloud@feddit.org 5 points 2 weeks ago

I connected my PC to my TV with a USB-via-Ethernet extender and a long HDMI cable and set up the Wii Remote to act as a pointer so I can ditch the ChromeCast.

[-] white_nrdy@programming.dev 1 points 2 weeks ago

I had never thought of a Wii remote like that for a HTPC. Interesting....

[-] whaleross@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Phillips electric toothbrush. Made in NL.

[-] chasteinsect@programming.dev 1 points 2 weeks ago

Huh interesting I thought they made them all in China?

Bought a backpack from Fjallraven recently, absolutely love it! I bought the orange one.

[-] jnod4@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 weeks ago

Are they still made in eu?

[-] blackn1ght@feddit.uk 1 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah I think they're still made in Sweden.

[-] mikedd@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Does subscribing to a Proton Unlimited account count? ๐Ÿ˜…

[-] radiantshackles@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 weeks ago

I'd been looking everywhere for a yellow half-face jester mask, just a cheap paper pulp one, and I finally found it at a UK joke shop's online store. ยฃ3 mask ended up running me ten times that after shipping and duty, but the hunt is finally ended

And a Svedbergs "Sarek" bathroom cabinet with LED light strips and light oak finish that looks really good but for some stupid reason only exist online as shitty renders.
