If she was trying to protect her reputation, that's a bit late. Nothing left to protect.
Feel like she’s more interested in protecting her future earning potential. She wouldn’t have taken the job in the first place if she cared about her reputation, imo.

But she’ll never wash that stanky musk off her upper lip.
I would imagine she knew full well trying to be the CEO of X/Twitter with Musk so heavily involved was going to be a losing venture as far as her own goals from the jump. But she took the job for the huge pay day and being able to have "CEO" in her list of previous positions on her resume.
