The library.

Tons of books on CD, takes minutes to rip.

They also have audio books via streaming apps and digital players (like an mp3 player with a single book). With either of those you have to do the old school record the audio though, so I avoid them u less I absolutely have to.

I also do mp3 rips of videos that are mostly just lectures, where visual isn't critical.

I like that.
As I am not fond of english audiobooks (actually at all) as I am German and need to actively listen to anything I hear (podcasts, movies/shows, audiobooks or dramas) i am usually reliant on the offerings of my library.
Recently I ripped all my "Was ist Was" audiobooks (basically a science show made accessible for ~12 y/o) and really enjoyed those. But they are very specific to the german speaking domain which is already small in comparison to english in the piracy scene.
And I am part of some german sources.

They offer DRM free audiobooks, and the prices with subscription tokens are really good, 10€ for any book.

Similarly (for Germany & Austria at least) there is also Thalia who offer DRM-free mp3-downloads of audiobooks - for purchase or through a subscription similar to audible.

(Note that this is not your next-door bookstore and quite a big chain not without controversies)

If you live in the USA and have a library card, you can get audiobooks for free via libby with your library card number and login. If you're looking for other sources, MAM is the goto.

edit: correction, their website says it's worldwide, which is nice.

With my library card I got for free! With Libby and some web inspector magic you can rip them for offline listening too.

If I really can’t find what I want I keep a myanonymouse account handy, and there’s the audiobookbay if I’m very desperate.

I used to download mp3 files from my library website but they stopped doing that so now I borrow CD's from my library. Also, I look up "black screen audio book" on Youtube and usually get some good hits.

MaM is the absolute best for audiobooks IMO. Always have what I want, a friendly and helpful community and from what I hear the most forgiving private tracker around.

If you use something like Jackett or Prowlarr, no. If you use the web interface, yes, but they don't verify the email you enter, so you can just type in a random one.

I use myanonamouse. Had to back then, none of the public trackers were good. Sounds like they might be better now though. MaM is the only private tracker I'm on.

Heads up about myanonamouse - they forbid VPNs during the initial interview, although apparently they allow VPNs after that.

Something funny about all kinds of private trackers that demand you not use a VPN and reveal all sort of stuff about you. Just feels so backwards lol

Right? I see lots of people recommending MaM for audiobooks, but not allowing VPN during the initial registration process is a hard no for me. Oh well.
