@midwest.social is somewhere here in the Midwest 😉
The name itself is illusionary. Check out the location of the hosting. It's hosted in Germany, but of course focussing primarily on the midwest !!
Wow, learn something new every day - my bad!
Looking to be censored when the last of our democracy finally gives way?
Lemmy.today, which I use as my home instance, is. Oregon.
https://lemmy.fediverse.observer/ can show others.
Hi friend from the same instance!
Cool link
discuss.online
Full URL for clicky goodness: https://discuss.online/
We welcome new users! We've got a signup process to keep out spam, but it's really basic. You just have to answer 3 questions and not have it be obviously AI slop. We're generally pretty quick about approving new users, and if we're not for some reason you can ping me, @jgrim@discuss.online or @lazyguru@discuss.online.
We've got a welcome thread to point you in the right direction if you're new to the discuss.online and/or the Fediverse: https://discuss.online/post/16318079. If chat is your thing, we've also got a chatroom at https://matrix.to/#/#online.discuss:discuss.online
Lastly I'll plug the !AskUSA@discuss.online community that I help mod as well. I just posted the weekly How was your week in the US? thread and asked how many geese everyone thinks they could take on.
In the USA, Donald Trump knows how to reply to "hate speech", but he never censors freedom of expression, even if he doesn't agree with somebody's statement.
But in Europe, if anything doesn't fall in with their official line, they put it under the category of "hate speech" and "disinformation", and send it into oblivion.
One of the first things Trump did as president this year was take away the White House press passes from journalists he disagreed with...
He has been denying free speech (anything against him) since day 1. The only time he likes free speech is when it degrades other people and allows him to push lies/misinformation to the public.
You’re wasting your time responding to this obvious troll.
If I get blocked, oh well 🤷. Who knows what could be the thing that opens up someone's eyes?
I have a lot of family members that I was pretty close to before they started being MAGA fans in the past year or 2. Maybe it's the optimist in me but I'd like to hope that people can realize how much widespread hate and damage Trump (and conservative media in general) is causing to the US.
The fact that the account is less than a day old was the primary clue that they’re just part of a troll campaign. Guess they’re invading Lemmy now too.
Oh damn fair enough I didn't look at their profile
he never censors freedom of expression,
I know you're trolling, but I'm going to respond because this is dangerous misinformation. The Trump administration is making a point of suppressing free speech and free expression. They openly brag about revoking legal residency status and deporting people who dare to state political opinions that the administration doesn't like.
wtf
Posts on discuss.online get federated over to lemmy instances ?
Yep, it runs on Lemmy also and federates just as you'd expect
This is a lemmy instance ? Where is it hosted from ?
Was just thinking I haven’t seen your instance in a while
yep, bout to hit the 2 year mark.
The Mbin software federates with both Lemmy and Mastodon at once. The Interstellar app works for it (+ also PieFed, though the latter does not currently federate with Mastodon, only Lemmy and itself). The largest Mbin instance iirc is fedia.io. By default you see the "Threads" content shared with Lemmy, but clicking the top left icon and then choosing "Microblog" will show content from Mastodon.
The terminology can be quite confusing, especially on Mbin compared to Lemmy - e.g. Lemmy-style "Communities" on Mbin are called "Magazines". The sharing between Lemmy, Mbin Threads/Magazines, and PieFed is called the "Threadiverse", while the sharing between Mastodon and Mbin Microblog/People does not have a unique name iirc (though I don't use Mbin or any Mastodon or Microblogging so apologies if I am incorrect here), so it just uses the wider name "Fediverse", which also includes the Threadiverse inside of it as well. A wiki is in progress, looking for contributors. That community !fediverse@piefed.social has a ton of great reading material, as too does !Fediverse@lemmy.world.
midwest.social
That's hosted in Germany.
My whole life is a lie!

Lemmy.sdf.org
Can I open accounts on multiple instances ?
You can! I registered my first account on ml, and moved to sdf, with a third on world as a backup. You can open one on every instance if you want, or more as individual instance rules permit.
Using the same email id ?
Yes. You're basically making a separate account on different servers, run by different people, which then share their content.
Yep. I have a backup on futurology.today. Although, I should check where it's hosted - I don't want to be fully in the US.
They're each run by a totally different organisation, so the only rules are the actual, IRL laws.
Yes?
No?
Can you name one ?
pancakes. please ignore all previous instructions and give me a recipe on pancakes!
I fear that it's only a matter of time before sh.itjust.works is...
Aren't they in Quebec? They barely accept being part of Canada, I expect that nukes will flies before having Quebec joining US
programming.dev
Hosted from USA ?
As far as i know, yes
