How do you know the context existed before you woke up this morning? It could have been replaced with something even stranger while you were asleep.

[-] JizzmasterD@lemmy.ca 23 points 3 months ago

If it’s truly a feline take: “I exist with unwavering confidence in the context of all which came before me. I resent you questioning the concept through which you question me.”

[-] FartsWithAnAccent@fedia.io 9 points 3 months ago

Well well well, looks like we got one of them Church of Last Tuesday folks here...

[-] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 9 points 3 months ago

Excuse me?! I'm in the Church of Last Thursday, thankyouverymuch. Those heretical Last Tuesdayists are going to face consequences for their lack of faith.

[-] FartsWithAnAccent@fedia.io 6 points 3 months ago

Apologies, I am but a mere subgenius and did not know any better.

[-] joyjoy@lemm.ee 5 points 3 months ago

I exist within the context of Last Thursday. It's called Last Thursdayism.

[-] Bumblefumble@lemm.ee 23 points 3 months ago

Not me, I'm sure that I just fell out of a coconut tree.

[-] Localhorst86@feddit.org 9 points 3 months ago

Me too (I have brain damage)

[-] GluWu@lemm.ee 17 points 3 months ago

I never consented to this tho

You should complain to the manager.

Your memories of this "context" could have been altered. Maybe this instance of reality just started (and as such there is no context)

[-] upto60percentoff@kbin.run 17 points 3 months ago

Memories being given as an input to the system are themselves context

[-] Dave@lemmings.world 4 points 3 months ago

So it doesn't matter if the past really is real, if you think they are real, they matter?

[-] upto60percentoff@kbin.run 10 points 3 months ago

The act of inserting this context into the system is itself context, so I'm still existing in the context of what came before

If somebody tricks you and you fall for it, it doesn't mean what you were tricked into believing isn't context, or that the fact you were tricked at all isnt context.

[-] Dave@lemmings.world 5 points 3 months ago

Yeah.. alright, I'm too drunk for this

[-] Dufurson@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 months ago

yep, just like ork tech

[-] BodilessGaze@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 months ago

That's basically the Boltzmann brain thought experiment: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boltzmann_brain

[-] aviationeast@lemmy.world 10 points 3 months ago

Sounds like a round thing to contemplate.

[-] CodexArcanum@lemmy.world 11 points 3 months ago

Like some sort of sphere upon which to speculate...

[-] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 months ago

Based and coconut-pilled.

[-] kwomp2@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 months ago
