According to the country’s historical experience, if the Russian state exists in its current form, it will not engage in sincere negotiations, or sign a peace deal in good faith.

Of course. Putin's reneged on every single treaty and agreement so far, why should Ukraine trust him now?

He thought deceit and lying was the smart thing to do. Now it's biting him in the ass. Maybe Russian novelists just wrote what they saw? It took forever but their books are long.
