Step 1: don't panic. The same garbage rule that is going to cost anyone on a ACA plan thousands of dollars next year will also hopefully keep MTG's transphobic bullshit from becoming law.
Step 2: prepare to endure. Talk to your trans-kid's pediatrician or specialist NOW about roll-your-own HRT and puberty blockers. (You don't want the only person advising you on them to be an unlicensed internet pharmacist). Get a lawyer if you can or get in contact with your local trans advocacy group.
Step 3: prepare to move. Leaving a garbage red state for a brave blue state is good advice for anyone who isn't a white nazi. New York and New England or the west coast. Not VA, PA or MI (Both lovely, too purple).
Step 4: prepare to flee. Do NOT keep your family here if elections are cancelled, civil war breaks out, or the post-truno POTUS is an even worse Christian DominionIst.
Step 5: talk to your kid about what THEY want. Children are just temporarily disabled adults, and they may surprise you.
Step 6: vote. Pick Republican or Democrat, and vote in EVERY election, general or primary, whether you like the candidates or need to just spoil your ballot.
Step 7: advocate. As much as you can, tell your neighbors and reps and random strangers that your kid shouldn't live in fear or be tortured because some small-hearted bigot doesn't know the difference between sex and gender.
Step 4: Flee is incorrect. The answer is fight.
Do you also blame Jewish people who fled nazi germany?
The US won't be corrected from external forces. Change has to come from within.

I can't speak for anyone else, but once I get my kids out all bets are off.
Fight is steps 6 and 7.
A violent insurrection cannot be planned in advance, especially not on the internet, and will either be doomed to failure or will consist of extant political divisions and advocacy organizations militarizing or joining en masse.
(The only successful revolutions that weren't extant orgs going to war were either not violent or so massive that "the whole nation" was the org going to war.)
And OP asked for advice about their trans kid. Child soldiers are a fucking war crime.
There isn't really an armed resistance of some kind to join in the US. The only option there is to become a lone wolf attacker, it's a questionable option, and OP is a parent.
This is systematically wrong on every level. I said fight, not combat or terrorism. There are a metric shitton of orgs to join in the march against fascism. Being a lone wolf is the worst thing anyone can do. Find allies, build strength, organize, defend.
Uh, double reply, so I'll just direct you to my first response for most of that.
Which is kind of the problem. They're tiny and stupid and infighting, and command no real funding, political power or public support. The Democratic party is the obvious exception, but they seem to be intent on manifesting the system back by pretending it's fine.
You might be thinking sure, but these little groups can grow. Answer me this: why haven't they yet, then? How long will it actually take, and what will America look like by then?
The term "fight" can take many forms. Evil wins/loses depending on if you let them.
It really looks like America has passed the point of no return there as well, though. Peaceful protesting can be and is ignored by Trump, and probably by whoever succeeds him. The traditional democratic instruments don't really threaten the Republicans existentially anymore, and can't grow back without support from both parties, so they're also out.
Like, they're going to lose the midterms (because they're incumbents and the economy is bad, not because anyone's been persuaded by logic). But that's just one election in a system that's been slowly degrading for two or three decades, and in which the president has really massive powers, now including just ignoring the laws.
If you think the "no kings" protests were ignored you weren't paying attention to how loudly the right wing bitched about them.
Heck, it can be argued that their scale was why senate Dems let the government shut down over the ACA subsidies -- and while I think how that shutdown ended was cowardly, it was also the most politically effective shutdown in US history. (There are multiple bills to extend those subsidies, and everyone knows which side is against them!)
Complaints are cheap, IIRC they also complain about the Starbucks cup most years. The lasting impact of No Kings has been zero and the last time I heard it brought up was to make a pun work. Same vibe as the pussy hats thing from however many years back.
I almost included the shutdown as an example of why the Democrats seem unlikely to be the faction that remakes the system. They're more than a decade behind the Republicans on besieging government funding to get things, and they still didn't land it.
I don't know, maybe the Republicans will dawdle long enough, the Democrats will have their own internal MAGA-style transition, and it will happen that way, but I just wouldn't bet on it.
