Akshually ๐Ÿค“๐Ÿ‘† those are not triplets. A triplet is when you divide a measure in three notes of the same duration, but those in metal (the "gallops") are three notes played out of four in a given time

Norp... You've just explained the difference between a gallop and a triplet. ๐Ÿค“โ˜๏ธ

Hence the slash in between gallop and triplet, as both occur frequently in metal.

EDIT: and let's be honest, at least in thrash, once it's being played at full whack, the difference is barely noticeable.

The slash could be interpreted as they both are interchangeable terms, which they are not. And even at full speed maybe they can't be differenciated by a novice ear but however they can be felt differently
