A dentist who earned ludicrous money couldn't fathom why I (minimum wage worker) couldn't afford £100 treatment. Bear in mind this was 2000 so 100 was waaaay more then. I explained it multiple times he didn't get it.
There's a comedy skit by Caroline Easom where she plays an orthodontist and asks a patient why she didn't get braces as a kid. The patient says she couldn't afford them and the ortho says "I've never heard of that..." In a very perplexed voice.
