I have a view that us humans do need some kind of escape from reality. Some really mindless escape from reality.

Few examples: After I quit social networks I got addicted to reading news. After I limited that, I am spending lots of time on Lemmy.

My grand parents spent most of their afternoons watching TV.

Before smart phones existed my mom had to remind my dad to put his newspaper (or could be phone) down when we are eating.

And after reading some stories about our great grandparents lots of people escaped to alcoholism and constant sex. I think major contributor to alcoholism being down is existence of another healthier escape (social networks).

Even if I try. I often get to tired to continue my selected exactly for this purpose really mindless hobbies. And just to have something to do I take out my phone and doom scroll. I do often sit with myself and get bored. However I think doom scrolling is just one of escapes we use.

What I try to do about this is at leas doom scroll slightly better stuff. I do not watch tiktoks, but I do browse news, and lemmy and watch lots of youtube. However I try to only watch high quality content I am subscribed to.

But at the end of the day I spend huge portion of my day on my phone mostly doom scrolling.

What do you think about this?

Take your time back (lemmy.world)

In the attention economy, your time is your most valuable curency - and you are being robbed of it in broad daylight…

or, should I say, screenlight.

It’s not your fault… but it IS within your power to do something about it.

Take your time back.

Take your attention back.

Take your life back.
