As a test I'm looking up directions home from work, but despite entering my address the results only return my block. Is there a setting I have to change? I don't see any relevant settings

As CoMaps doesn't track peoples’ data, we can't say for sure, however we believe that CoMaps has now exceeded 100k downloads!

A huge THANK YOU to all the incredible people who’ve provided support along the way! Whether you downloaded from Google Play, the App Store, F-Droid, or APK, your engagement and energy have been key to making this journey so special. We’re just getting started, and we couldn’t have done it without you.

Looking forward to even more discoveries, connections, and collaborations!

Tl;dr: I want a "fewer traffic lights, more dedicated bike paths" option.

I know enough about programming and math to assume there's some form of (weighted) graph underlying the routing function (is this straight up openstreetmaps or some conversion in between?), in which case it's not stupid to assume this can be done IF the info is in openstreetmaps.

So what I'd like is (pointers to where I'm likely to find the info are also appreciated) :

  • what information is available in openstreetmaps that would be helpful for this?
  • how does this info get into CoMaps?
  • how is this info used in the routing?
  • is this a feature other people want and/or does CoMaps accept contributions in code (if it seems feasible)?

Thanks in advance!

Thousands of local contributors around the world help keep it accurate, up-to-date, and truly community-driven. A mountain trail, a new road, or a hidden café - chances are it was added by someone who knows the area best.

CoMaps builds on this rich, open data to bring you offline navigation— maps that work anywhere.

Thank you to everyone contributing to OpenStreetMap — you make CoMaps possible!

When I first became aware of Organic Maps, the very first thing I noticed was that you cannot search for "Maccas" and get a sensible result back. At the time I gave up on it, thinking that although theoretically not complicated, it would be practically too difficult.

But it turns out this is already a solved problem. OSM data for chain businesses has a brand:wikidata field with values like Q38076, which points to that organisation's page in the Wikidata database. And Wikidata has a field called "also known as", which includes a pretty comprehensive list of different names for the chain. If an OSM-based mapping app checked the Wikidata, it could easily resolve a search for "Maccas" as intending to search for McDonald's restaurants, and other similar such cases. OM obviously doesn't do this. Does CoMaps? Is there a way to suggest that it should to the developers?

I first heared about CoMaps last week and instantly switched from OrganicMaps :) My question is: How often will CoMaps update the map data from OSM?

We're proud to reveal the logo for CoMaps — designed and chosen by the community.

From maps to code to design, CoMaps is 100% community-powered — and this logo is no different. It’s a symbol of what we’re building together: free, open, and offline map navigation for everyone.

The winning logo was created by @Flummic. The initial round had 21 logos submitted, resulting in 6 finalists, followed by an iteration process where people collaborated to make improvements (https://codeberg.org/comaps/Governance/issues/78).

Thank you to everyone who shaped this milestone. We’re just getting started.

Good day CoMaps team, I’d like to start off by expressing my gratitude for you for maintaining such an amazing project after the drama between Organic Maps’ owners, and for keeping the iOS version despite it being problematic for open source projects. Truly, thank you.

I have made this post just to let you guys be aware of what seemed to me missing CarPlay (Apple’s car interface thingy) support on CoMaps unlike Organic Maps even though it’s an open source project.

If there’s maybe a block of code that was missed or even completely missing code for CarPlay, an explanation would be nice. You don’t have to pressure yourselves though.

Again, thank you to the CoMaps team for their efforts, and to the CoMaps community for their support. ❤️

After dozens of ideas and tons of iteration in the community, we’re down to the final 6 logo designs — and your vote will help decide which one becomes the official face of CoMaps.

This isn’t just a design — it’s a symbol of open maps, privacy-respecting navigation, and a global community.

– Sign in to vote now, and be part of CoMaps history: https://codeberg.org/comaps/Governance/issues/102

– Voting closes: July 11

Let’s build this together!

A little question for the devs of CoMaps. Is a build for Linux (.appimage) is planned ? 🙏

Thanks.

Whether it's a quiet forest trail, a winding coastal road, or your favorite neighborhood café — we’d love to see it!

Share a screenshot of your route or a photo from the road.

Let’s build a map of adventures — one story at a time.

Just days since launch, and CoMaps is already making waves! Many have downloaded the new navigation app, and the reviews are rolling in!

From fast directions to support of the CoMaps principles, people are loving the way CoMaps makes getting around.

– “Finally the freedom and privacy respecting open source map app I needed.. and finally not for profit!”

– “Great start for a community run fork. I already donated, and really hope the development can keep up with that of Organic Maps.”

– “forked, improved, released, love it.”

Thank you to everyone sharing the love — and tell your friends. This is just the beginning.

Public Transport Options (lemmy.dbzer0.com)

I love OSM Navigators and I try to use them as often as possible. The main thing preventing me from using them exclusively is the way they handle public transport. Currently, CoMaps only shows one possible connection, without any timetables or alternatives. I can't click on the banner showing the connection, I can't swipe to find more connections.

Am I doing something wrong?
