Org mode changed my fucking life! I looked into using emacs as a simple markdown editor when I was doing a creative writing course and discovered org mode. 4 years later and I never leave emacs, everything is done through emacs and org mode. I even use it as my window manager (exwm). I bought an old chromebook to turn into an emacs machine and it's so good. It's an operating system and I don't like using a computer without it.

Some things for you to look into that I now can't live without:

Elfeed

Org-capture and capture templates

Dired

EXWM

Syncthing (not a part of emacs but means I don't have to use closed source cloud backups)

I passionately love emacs. At first I thought all they shortcuts and keybindings were a bit insane but they are second nature to me at this point. Emacs has also saved me lots of money that I would have spent on silly writing apps and aids.

I think Vic Fontaine is one of the weirdest things in Star Trek, and that's saying something. I couldn't believe he had such a big part in DS9. I enjoyed some of it and I always crack jokes about him so it was definitely entertaining but just so very weird.

I think I get what he was supposed to be, it's kind of like when they send comedians and singers onto military bases to boost morale of the troops. It was just such a weird choice to have that style of music. It felt totally out of place to me, and I'm sure it was seriously uncool at the time it was on TV.

Imagine being 15 or something and trying to persuade one of your friends that DS9 is amazing and really cool (which it was and is), so they come round to watch an episode with you and it's Vic Fontaine.

It's just what you're used to. To me fedora seems weird and I don't know why people choose it over opensuse. To me opensuse feels like home.

Also yast is great and I don't get why more distros don't have a similar thing.

A very TOS episode that I thoroughly enjoyed!

Can we let La'an have a few happy moments in this season? That woman must be riddled with PTSD by now.

It was great to finally get Pike back! Has he ever told his girlfriend that he's almost certainly going to be disabled? What a pickle he's in. I think if I were in his shoes I would have let the relationship end. The guilt must be driving him insane.

I feel like they might be messing around with the timelines so that they can save Pike from his horrendous fate and just say it's an alternate timeline compared to TOS. Normally I'd be against that, but it's Pike and I love him so much that I almost want them to do it.

Eternal darkness for the GameCube could be so good with a proper remaster.

The original Quake but the asthetic needs to be identical and NIN should actually do the soundtrack.

Deus Ex would be great, it was so ahead of its time.

This might be my first ever audiobook. I've wanted to read it for ages but never got around to it. Garak is one of my favourite characters so it will be great to hear his voice again.

I've got a friend that fast forwards through films and only plays the parts with fight scenes, car chases or explosions then he will tell people the film is shit if there's not enough of them.

I've seen a bit of drama in other Lemmy instances about various things and it's made me think startrek.website needs a very clear set of rules.

God damn I enjoyed the shit out of that!

At first glance I was unsure about the new engineer but by the end of her first scene I loved her. I wish she was featured a bit more but I'm sure we will see more soon.

Spock is the man!
