There should be a referendum about this.
Is this an alternative fuxking timeline we're in?
Do republicans WANT to be seen as traitorous evil dixkheads? They seem to think they can spin anything and their idiot supporters will believe it, and, after trump, they're probably right.
You need to activate the threads account. People are being asked to follow accounts which haven't been activated IE created.
You're missing the point.
I'd you have to create a threads account, which shares and logins to your Instagram account, for it to be active, but people are being sent advice to follow accounts which haven't been activated, then this is bad faith behaviour and not misinformation.
One concern would be:
- Say Lemmy/kbin grows organically to 1 million users.
- Threads federates, with 100 million users
Do you want these users flooding Lemmy? I don't want to be biased at the theoretical type of user on Threads, though if the right wingers/trolls/extremists migrate to Threads because they think it's "more open" then that may be an issue. If it's full of soccer moms posting pictures of their kids, or karens complaining about everything, that may be an issue.
Multiculturalism is great, I want to hear new ideas, though some areas are breeding grounds for lower-think, it seems. This probably sounds prejudiced or elitist.
I want to talk to the vanguard people who take the risk and are openminded and come to lemmy, not necessarily the "lemmings" who join facebook because they love facebook and don't want to, or can't, delve deeper into why facebook is one of the worst forces in media at the moment.
I am not prejudiced (I hope) against "regular people" and "soccer moms", though think that if 10 million soccer moms came here, the discussions may not be as... interesting, as they are.
Also, I don't know what lemmy instances will think about downloading masses of data from threads.
Good points. The musings of Lemmy/kbin/other users will be lost in the mass of karen posts, soccer moms, extremist views, god knows what else.
It's pretty obvious that those who came here from Reddit or wherevee are looking for a place that is not dictated to by commercial interests, and if threads attaches onto these communities, I guess we'll leave for somewhere else.
I don't imagine we're going to see stories in the near future about how the police abuse these powers :/
Unless there's a massive data breach which affects them personally - though not sure how that would be.
The only way to go may be forcing the mega-terch companies to respect user rights, which you'd think would be a joke - and for google/facebook/microsoft that is a joke, though it is interesting that apple introduced that "opt in app do-not-track" thing last year, where facebook shat it's pants.
Oh, there's scope to introduce "official" Reddit user badges for 10 bucks a pop and all of sorts of suicidal Musk shenanigans
And convince people to come and create content here.
More freedom, no ads, not a profit seeking private company, privacy respecting.
I posted on /r/bing a few days how now you can't turn off tracking or history in edge but can't find the article and don't want to give reddit any traffic to check...
Stick to firefox.
Fuck the CCP and putin.
