The gun nuts have made it perfectly clear they're not willing to budge on any legislation. It's going to get to the point where their opposition totally adopts the polar opposite viewpoint of just taking them all away.
I'm there already, fuck guns. I've lost all sympathy for their arguments about "home safety" and "keeping the government in check" (fuckin LOL at that one). They should be illegal and anyone caught with one automatically sentenced to 10 years. I think harsh penalties and zero tolerance are our only options since the gun lobbies won't even consider anything reasonable. They backed us into this position and this is going to keep happening until we do something meaningful about it.
Some people live way out in the woods and need to defend themselves from bears, moose and to hunt for food. Bolt action, shotguns and revolvers should be acceptable. This blanket ban all guns rhetoric from people is incredibly nieve and comes from sheltered city people. Guns are a tool and they have their place. Ones designed for killing people do not belong.
What other option do we have? Every piece of reasonable legislation gets hamstringed by the gun lobbyists. There's no recourse besides flushing the whole industry down the shitter.
I grew up in the mountains of Colorado actually, want to guess how many bears I've had to shoot? Get some bear spray, a bow and arrow, a pellet gun, a paintball gun that shoots pepper balls, firecrackers, a starter pistol, a big fuckin pointy stick, loud speakers, a fire extinguisher, fucking anything besides a goddamn school destroying ar-15. I'm tired of kids dieing from this bullshit. Fuck guns.
Totally agree on ar15s, you don't need anything with that capacity for any reason really. I can see an argument for some conservation/wildlife management (ie: boar over population) but really that should fall to government to handle who has access to those kinds of firearms already.
No half measures, a blanket ban is just about the only way to solve anything.
Just start with handguns first and move our way up.
They are in my yard regularly with their young. We have had them give birth in my backyard repeatedly and its not uncommon to have these huge animals wander into the city outskirts sometimes. Not everyone lives in a city that is devoid of large wildlife. There are plenty of people who live out on the edge of wilderness who also need to worry about bears that you totally skipped past (had a few wander through where I live a couple of times I'm aware of and I would say I'm closer to city outskirts then wilderness proper). There are also several communities in my state who rely on local hunting and fishing for food, something else you are ignoring. Realize there are other people living vastly different lives then what you know instead of making outlandish personal attacks like a child

As a communist I know we need to disarm the settler class. As long as settlers can own guns they can be deputized. See: Israel

Mao tells us in On Contradiction that we need to identify the superior contradiction to organize against it. Under settler-colonialism the settler class is bourgeoisified by superexploitation of the colonized. You aren't going to defeat the settler-occupation by arming the occupiers.
So it is in Israel, so it is in the US. They're close allies because they're part of the same project.
you can't think that laws passed by the settlers will be enforced in a way that would undermine their dominance: they would outlaw guns and in practice only prosecute the occupied populace.
Conversely, colonized people are not protected by the freedoms bestowed onto settlers. Legally armed Black men still get murdered by cops.
The reason we don't have gun control is precisely because settlers won't pass gun control laws. That's why we'll have to disarm them- later 🤫
I’m someone who likes guns, since the cowboy guns are pretty cool, but I’m willing to surrender them if or when they get banned. A complete total and harsh ban is the only way to truly solve the shooting incidents.
Ideally we'd address the root causes of lack of mental health and socioeconomic inequality.
We can probably do both, vaccine and cure protocol kinda stuff.

we can just ignore them. they don't have any enforcement arm. in fact, congress has been concentrating so much if its own power in the executive we can probably ignore congress, too. what is congress going to do about it? pass a law?
Yep. I own guns and switched from reasonable measures to full repeal of the 2nd. They're only driving reasonable people further to full bans and no one can blame them for that.
Well unfortunately in America 232 years ago the Bill of Rights were ratified and the 2nd amendment to the Constitution was made law which stated that anyone can have as many guns as they want according to the modern Supreme Court.
Yeah! What world would we live in if you could change something that's called "an amendment".
Oh, we CAN change it... First you get 230 votes in the House of Representatives... I mean, technically it CAN be done, they got 311 to bounce George Santos...
And 3/4ths of the states have to approve it as well.
That's the LAST step, yeah. 38 states for ratification.
If it was amended in, it can be amended out.
