Haha that reminds me of a conversation I was having with a friend once upon a time where I said something like: "I just want to meet someone that wants to spend Saturday night at home watching series and smoking a joint. But that person for me probably doesn't exist." And my friend responded with "Nah, they do exist but they're busy spending Saturday nights at home watching series and smoking a joint, so you'll never meet."
Also, small towns fucking suck and this is not a generational thing. You're stuck between a rock and hard place where the same people who are telling you about the 'bro code' and enforcing it on others, are all playing musical chairs with each other's boyfriends and girlfriends because the dating pool is so small.
If there's another piece of advice I could give you, fuck the bro code. It's a lie. None of these assholes will follow it themselves when the opportunity comes up for them and you'll be the only idiot trying to stay 'honourable'. Very few people that you ever meet have never dated someone before, so you're going to be always dating somebody's ex and you're going to be always breaking the code anyway whether you like it or not. And in a small town, you can't afford to pass up opportunities for the sake of assholes that you'll probably not even be friends with 10 years from now. And who would do the same to you without a second thought.
Also, I don't know if you saw my edit but I can't say this enough. Keep the heavy shit about marriage and children to yourself. Keep it light. Coming on too strong is the biggest romance killer. Try to put that shit out of your mind until much later in the relationship, if you can.

Honestly, I think there's two big barriers to this (same goes for the NSFW side of things, if I may say). No posting to your own profile and from what I can tell, a very inconsistent (or non-existent) system of being able to follow specific users. Reddit is much better equipped for people who are going to be posting pictures of themselves and maybe promoting themselves and gaining a following.
But I think also the other problem that also applies to things like skincare / health and niche entertainment communities is just that there's not enough users around yet to make more niche subjects active. That I understand and can only hope changes over time.
We keep a pinned post at the top of !showsandmovies@lemm.ee
Thanks, I have checked out that thread before. Seems to be a good place to check for any new specific communities that pop up or that I haven't thought of. I think I need to add that community to my favourites and visit it more often because it seems like the best central place for now. Although of course I'm not watching everything as it comes out, so can't promise I'll be commenting on everything.
While I'm kinda between promotions and exploring my options, I might as well throw hearsay and assumptions out the window and give AEW and ROH a decent shot again. Probably gonna burn myself out in a few months time lol but it's been a long time since I've made the effort to check out everything else and I'm enjoying it for now at least.
Just finished the first match for the 'Future of Stardom' championship, I'm guessing these ladies are kinda like young lions or in the development division. Seems like a great match to start with and give me someone to follow on their upward arc.
I honestly zoned out most of the commentary and Pink Devil did a victory speech at the end that sounded snarky and cocky as fuck. I'm honestly thinking I could just get by with looking up old reviews afterwards, and looking up any specific wrestler I'm interested in though.
And I'm glad to hear that I seem to have chosen a time to start when problematic management has just been ousted.
I wish that I existed in the better timeline where after Fear Factor was over, this guy went on to sell vacuum cleaners on infomercials where he belongs instead of being some sort of political talking head. I mean, what the fuck.
I joked about this once, but I'm starting to think that if the Democrats want to win the people over, they need to get that guy who hosted Survivor to run for president, and get Guy Fieri to run a podcast to get all the kids onboard. The USA might not trust politicians or science or education anymore but they sure as hell trust '00s era reality TV stars.
I'm 100% with you here. People that actually care about human rights would've fought for those rights for their neighbours and mothers and sisters and daughters. You don't get to say that "Trump and Biden are the same" and get to say that you care about human rights too. Because clearly you don't give a shit about anyone in the LGBTQ+ community that is going to live a life of hell now under Trump. Not to mention women having their rights taken away too.
These people just need to admit to themselves and everyone else that the only 'human rights' they give a shit about are their own. Their protest vote or lack thereof was completely fucking meaningless. And so instead of helping people that it's actually possible for them to help, they decided to help no one. Like selfish fucking children that only care about themselves.
The way I see it, the slippery slope that we're currently on is tolerating nazis and bigots.
Well, I can now say that I've been around to witness my first big users versus moderators versus admins battle royale on Lemmy. And within my first week here! It's been fairly entertaining and also feels like I should have an achievement badge on my profile now. Just need the next achievement of being a participant in one of these matches.
Apologies for the second reply. Just wanted to say that I checked out mbin and it's probably more up my alley personally.
But, I still have a barely used Facebook account because a lot of people in my country are still on it. And I'm going to see if the rumours are true and try to spread the news about Friendica there, hopefully without my post getting removed or account being banned.
And if / when people from there give Friendica a shot, then I'll give it a proper shot too with them. It'll just be used for different things than what I use Lemmy for.
Yeah, this kind of thing makes me glad that I got banned from Reddit too. People jump on any excuse to shit on women there. The place seems progressive on the surface and has some pretty great feminist and queer communities but there has always been this underlying current there in the larger Reddit.
People dogpile and seem to almost take glee when there's a chance to shit on a woman for something. It gives me the impression that they just love to jump on any chance they get to go "See? The 'females' are also bad." But it comes with 10x the spite and hate, like with Ellen Pao versus anything that has happened on Reddit since. If they had a female CEO during the API thing, they would've tanked.
Another one of my favourites was a thread discussing a 10km fun run for mostly non serious athletes, where it was suggested that it was a little silly to have separate male and female categories (I think it might have even involveda woman getting best time but a lesser prize). And the thread kinda filled up with walls of text about hand grip strength and in depth analysis on Olympic athletes. For a fun run.
But imagine going around calling teenage girls "whores". What pieces of shit. Funnily enough, the comment that got me banned from Reddit was a comment calling out men in general for allowing men in general to be pieces of shit (in a subreddit meant for calling out misogyny no less). But calling teenage girls "whores" is ok. I guess I'd expect nothing less from the ex moderator of jailbait.
For the honour of grey whales!
