Stop fucking edging me god fucking damn.

[-] dhork@lemmy.world 83 points 3 days ago

Nobody should want these guys to finish the job, especially before the election. That's a recipe to end up with President Vance, and the man is an absolute moron. He makes Dan Quayle look like the spelling bee champion.

Donald Trump doesn't deserve to die from an assassin's bullet. He deserves to die of natural causes, in prison.

[-] NuXCOM_90Percent@lemmy.zip 24 points 3 days ago

Vance is immensely unlikable even amongst the republican base. And the past eight years have made it clear that trump can only really get trump elected. The only downside of him going to hell is that it will give republicans a few more years to figure out their post-trump pivot (which seems to be liz cheney).

[-] Sanctus@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

You are right, but I dont think the cult would unify around someone else that quickly. In fact, I think chaos that nobody that is sane would truly want would immediately ensue.

On the other hand, every minute he is allowed to operate is a minute that extremists like the Proud Boys, Christian Nationalist, and just an unimaginable rogue gallery of others is actively injected into roles that they can cause extreme damage at.

The unfortunate part is my second point will continue being true rather Trump is bunking in Reagan's torment pitch or not. Mask off will be the policy going forward, just manipulative nasty shit that gets nothing done but the rich richer and the Earth sicker.

Edit: and since I'm ranting I'd like to add; I care not one bit about "justice" served to Trump. I care only that we can recover from and avoid the circumstances that brings people like him to power. Send him to oblivion, lock him in a cell, leave him to die in an old person's home alone once he outlives his use, whatever. I care that we notice what brings these people to power; Fear, Instability, and the abandonment of our own citizens. If we dont educate and care for one another, we are more susceptible to fascism again and again. If we dont strengthen our most vulnerable, and instead cater to those who already have everything, this will just happen again.

[-] JWBananas@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago

Let's not pretend that the man doesn't know exactly what he is doing. His only deficit is in charisma.

[-] eran_morad@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago

I want trump to die. In a supermax.

[-] cbarrick@lemmy.world 12 points 3 days ago

Assassination would be good for MAGA. They'd worship him as a martyr.

I'd like Trump to die ASAP. From natural causes, like a heart attack from eating too much McD's.

[-] Catma@lemmy.world 21 points 3 days ago

He is going to be a martyr no matter how he dies.

The conspiracy theories around his death are going to make every other conspiracy theory look quaint.

[-] Sanctus@lemmy.world 12 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Why would that not martyr him anyway?

If I were to die now they would say it was so that my soul could lead them.

[-] eran_morad@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Nah bruv, let him live a decade in prison.

[-] spankmonkey@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

There are zero people to step in and rally voter support for MAGA without Trump.

[-] cbarrick@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

There's JD Vance.

There's Ron DeSantis.

There's Jim Jordan.

There's Matt Gaetz.

There are plenty of MAGA republicans in Congress who would step up. To say otherwise is to be living under a rock. Trump is far from the only prominent fascist ass hole in US politics.

[-] spankmonkey@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

None of them will rally voter support. They are all wet blankets for the MAGA voter base, even iif they want to be the next Trump.

[-] simplejack@lemmy.world 57 points 3 days ago

Protect Donald Trump

Vote for Harris to enact common sense gun regulations.

[-] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

I'd love for you to be right but Id say any national gun reform will be crushed by the Supreme Court or a split senate.

[-] dylanmorgan@slrpnk.net 7 points 3 days ago

I hope Harris is elected and has the brass ovaries to pack the court and give Roberts the finger.

[-] orcrist@lemm.ee 3 points 3 days ago

That's probably true. But one of these decades maybe we can figure it out. Not because of Orange. Because of the school shootings. Maybe. Eventually.

[-] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Just gonna say it:

Donald trump is the single greatest argument for 2A rights we have ever seen.

Granted: We need at least some basic changes- universal background checks. waiting periods to let those happen. ban bump stocks. ban anything like bumpstocks.Trump being the best argument doesn't change that we need basic reform, and we've needed it for decades.

[-] Eatspancakes84@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Why?? Every time someone uses political violence the would be dictator becomes more popular and he can make the state more repressive. Even right now, there will be idiot undecided voters that will change their vote to him because some idiot tried to kill him. There are really no upsides to attempting to remove tyrants with guns.

[-] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Did you forget about the part where he started a fucking insurrection because he lost an election fair and square?

He's basically the reason the 2A exists- to act as a final measure against assholes like trump from coming to power.

(In the modern era, it's not a very good measure, don't get me wrong. Dudes with rifles- even LMGs- aren't going to hold out against dudes inside tanks and flying UCAVs dropping bombs... and I'm all for not-idiotic gun control. a firearm painted black is not "tactical"... or any more dangerous.)

[-] Eatspancakes84@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

I don’t believe that, even in the face of a full coup, (gun) violence will solve any issues. There’s just no way that a majority of people support a violent militia taking over power of the government, no matter how illegitimate some think that government is.

As examples, look at the recent coup attempt in Turkey, or the Wagner uprising in Russia. In both cases the violent uprisings were used by the dictator to cement his power. Guns will not help you.

[-] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

I don’t know how clear I can be: it’s not a very good measure.

I’m not even saying it’s a good argument.

I’m saying Trump is the best argument for it.

It’s a question of irony. Most hardcore 2a weirdo’s support trump. Yet he’s the best argument for the 2a.

Make sense?

[-] breadsmasher@lemmy.world 37 points 3 days ago

“let an entire country have guns. what could go wrong?”

where was the “good guy with gun” to save the day? excluding professional trained security members

[-] WoahWoah@lemmy.world 19 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Well, in some sense, that's precisely what the Secret Service was in this case -- the proverbial good guy with a gun.

I think the fringe 2A people basically want a world that is some combination of the wild west from movies and a militarized society filled with bodyguards and escorts.

Note: they all always assume they're a protagonist or antagonist in this hypothesized world, i.e., they're always the person with bodyguards, a body guard, or an outlaw with a gun moving through the tumbleweeds. They're never all the random people killed along the way.

[-] breadsmasher@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

I literally said excluding professionals.

[-] xantoxis@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

doesn't that render the whole question as nonsense? do you think there's an expectation (among the 2a idiots) out there that good guys with guns are immediately emptying clips at anyone who is bad and also has a gun? how would they know?

this is the secret service's job, and they performed it. doing the "good guy with a gun" bit is so obviously out of place here, no matter what you think of guns or trump or the secret service. save it for situations where it actually makes sense.

[-] breadsmasher@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

Ah. I think you have entirely missed my sarcasm of “good guy with gun stops bad guy with gun”.

Most countries have armed security/police without also having a heavily armed population. Plenty of comments of “if you ban guns only bad guys have guns” nonsense.

[-] WoahWoah@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago
[-] LEDZeppelin@lemmy.world 26 points 3 days ago

They promise guns in every hand while hiding behind bulletproof glass like a scared little biatch

[-] 14th_cylon@lemm.ee 19 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

i find it strange that there would be shots fired and the perpetrator would survive to tell a tale.

on the other hand, the secret service agents must despise that dipshit more than anyone, since he willingly put their lives at risk multiple times, so i have hard time imagining they would be in on any sort of pre-planned PR show...

[-] kescusay@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

The guy was behind a fence, with just the barrel of the gun poking through, so it's not too surprising their shots missed.

[-] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 6 points 3 days ago

The effective range of an AK-47 is 380 yards. The shots were taken somewhere between 300 and 500 yards. I don't think the shooter had a chance of making that shot and it is more likely that he was just trying to make himself famous.

[-] spankmonkey@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Think of how more famous he would be if he took out the first p[resident who attempted a coup and tried to get his VP killed!

[-] 14th_cylon@lemm.ee 1 points 3 days ago

well, that's probably not best way to do it...

[-] kescusay@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

Yeah, probably not. But would-be assassins aren't necessarily the sharpest people around.

[-] 14th_cylon@lemm.ee 4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

that's survivorship bias... we just don't know the names and faces of the smart ones ;)

[-] orcrist@lemm.ee 1 points 3 days ago

Attempted assassination will get your name on TV and in the history books. It might get you killed or locked up for life, though. So it depends on your life goals.

[-] SassyRamen@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

No one knows anything about the shooter other than "it was a man".. everyone is always filming that swine and they don't have any leaked to fox news of the attempted assassination? This is all an attempt from the ass hole to get away from the debate and taylor swift.

[-] jaggedrobotpubes@lemmy.world 14 points 3 days ago

Oh did he do everything always to make everybody everywhere want him dead?

[-] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 12 points 3 days ago

I have this sneaking suspicion that the first attempt was the equivalent of Columbine and, just like with the explosion in school shootings since then, any loser that wants to make a name for themselves is going to take shots at politicians.

[-] Default_Defect@midwest.social 3 points 3 days ago

Gonna be honest, I'd rather have a bunch of failed assassinations of politicians than any school shootings at all.

As long as they don’t start claiming to be time travelers I think we’re still okay

[-] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago

Anyone with a functional brain knows Trump is a threat to democracy. So I have a feeling this won't be the last attempt

[-] Suavevillain@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Nobody warming up their aim before doing this lol? New Trump dlc dropped.
