Buy DRM free music instead of streaming it.

This is why they will not release the 90s shows on 4k BluRay. They don't want anyone to actually own copies.

Some jerk company (like Google) cannot suddenly discontinue my entire reader with all my feeds, because its mine, on my server. But because it's a web app, I can use it from any device, unlike a local app. After Google killed reader, That was just too annoying. Self hosted since.

This sounds like it should be the premise of a Doctor Who episode.

If you have a poor quality, low density (often mass produced), ceramic plate, there are tiny air bubbles inside it. These vibrate when the microwave runs, heating the plate faster/more than the food. This is the same reason why some mug handles get hot enough for 2nd or 3rd degree burns in the microwave while others never get the "microwave handle of death". Better made ceramics will have far fewer (or none) of these bubbles. This is why usually hand made pottery will not heat up like this, while factory stuff that was quickly poured into molds often will.

This article over on Hack-A-Day seemed like it would appeal here. It discusses how the physical aspects of a cheap ballpoint pen are just less well suited to cursive writing as compared to a fountain pen. Enjoy!

Do not use their router. You are not required to. I have xfinity, and I use my own modem and my own router. No monthly rental fee. Just takes a little research before purchase.

But, um, the first national free lunch programs were started in this country because when WWII started, the government found that the post-Great-Depression populace was so stunted from malnourishment that there was concern about recruiting enough eligible soldiers. So, does this mean Republicans no longer want a military? No more sending poor people to fight their wars?

Well, I completely ignored karma on Reddit for around a decade, until a friend one day pointed my huge karma out to me in a very enthusiastic way. I believe I will also ignore it here.

I knew nothing about inter-Lemmy-instance-politics when I made my account. I simply made it on a server that was actually not SO overwhelmed that it couldn't make new accounts. I would imagine the same is true of many new users of late.

My Lemmy exerience: We're (heavily) advertised to on Reddit during the pre-blackout mess that we should try Lemmy. I go to try Lemmy. Server is broken. Server is broken. Server is not allowing new users. Server is not allowing new users. Ah! This one actually functions, so I can try Lemmy! Start following and posting, and finding nice communities. Then start finding out that some of these only federate in one direction, so I'm posting to people on another instance who can't see it, because of Lemmy admin bickering and politics. Great, now I need to start over with a new account again, just when I was feeling settled in? Leaves a bad taste, and I was lucky enough to not end up on one of the MOST hated instances.

I hate politics. You can't escape them anywhere involving humans.

I can't help but wonder if the benefits of e-ink are as good in the format of goggles/glasses. I'm skeptical, for sure, but it is an interesting form factor. Also a interesting decision that they work with your phone, so the glasses don't need to have much on board storage. Would anybody here use something like this? Definitely seems ultra-niche.
