Why does this screenshot look like Windows 7? It’s 2024.

It is an old screenshot, back from when people awoke to find Windows 8 suddenly installed on their computers.

Then the Lenovo updater is the least of your problems.

I don't think it's a problem for the guy who answered your question

[-] fuckwit_mcbumcrumble@lemmy.world 6 points 9 months ago

I don't think there's even a problem. It's just poorly worded but saying that system update is going to update itself.

It might be a problem for fuckwit_mcbumcrumble if the name means anything

What's gorey about this? The program is called "System Update" and needs to be updated to be able to receive system software updates.

Yeah, it sounds a bit funny but I've seen that happen with many OEM update utilities. Even Windows Update once told me that itself needed an update, it's a perfectly normal thing.

Fourteen occurrences of some form of the word "update" on-screen from one program.

"Please wait while System Update searches for new updates for your system" reminds me of the classic Nintendo instruction card on the Donkey Kong arcade game: "Jump button makes Jumpman jump."

Who checks for updates to the updater 🤔
