Turning Point USA CEO Erika Kirk said her organization’s efforts to support a potential JD Vance presidential campaign in 2028 are “in the works.”

Kirk’s comments on an episode of The Megyn Kelly Show that was released on Monday were not unexpected.

Her late husband, Charlie Kirk, was an early advocate of Vance during Donald Trump’s vice presidential selection process in 2024, and the two remained close friends until Kirk’s assassination in Utah in September.

But the promise of the group’s backing is a critical acquisition for Vance’s hypothetical future presidential campaign. While Vance remains the most obvious apparent heir to Trump’s MAGA movement, other prominent Republicans have been making subtle moves to position themselves as candidates in 2028.

Please do. If there are any sort of legitimate elections, JD ain't winning them. His favourability is lower than Trump's and I doubt they can rescue that. He sounds much more toxic than trump and he reeks of unauthenticity.

100%, a huge portion of the US seems to be aggressively stupid and will continue to vote for Republicans regardless of the leader. The entire US political system needs to be burned down and reconstructed along with massive changes to the education system otherwise, even if a Democrat somehow gets back in, it's just postponing further fascism when the Republicans return.

TBH I think at this point the US needs to Balkanise itself; I don't know any other way out of the current mess it's in

[-] zd9@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

The way out is mass cult de-programming programs first, then arrest/remove/??? the propaganda sources like Fox, Newsmax, OANN, in the first place. Then "provide justice" (edit: there are plenty of legal ways to do this) to the few dozen billionaires causing most of this. Then from there the rest will begin to heal itself, but first you have to cut out the tumor/infection.

[-] Envy@quokk.au 14 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Yeah that ain't happening with out a Balkanizing civil war. Too many guns, too many nukes on too many bases in the backyards of too many psychophants who have been voting for the same political sports team for far too many years

[-] frezik 7 points 1 week ago

Vance can't generate the same kind of cult of personality that Trump can. The GOP would be sunk without that.

[-] 4grams@awful.systems 6 points 1 week ago

That’s why they are going to saddle the neckhole dude’s widow with him.

[-] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 6 points 1 week ago

MAGA is a classic cult of personality, and there is no #2. There are plenty of narcissistic morons who think they can be #2, but once Trump assumes room temperature, the knives are going to come out, the backstabbing will commence, and half of the MAGA support will evaporate, and the other half will splinter.

With MAGA burning, it will be the Democrats versus the Sociopathic Oligarchs, and the Dems will have to act boldly and decisively if they want to survive the onslaught of capitalist violence.

[-] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

It's not their dumbness we'd be counting against for Vance though. The racists hate him because of his wife and children. Most everyone else hates him because he's a charisma vacuum. It's just the techbros lead by Thiele propping him up.

This woman is going to do to smoky eyes what Hitler did to the toothbrush mustache

[-] Witchfire@lemmy.world 18 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

The goths will make sure that doesn't happen. You can't be goth and fascist

[-] WoodScientist@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

You know, now that I think of it, there must have been some decent number of men that had a Hitler moustache before Hitler ruined it. Imagine being the guy in 1941 who is stubbornly refusing to shave it saying, "hey, it's not my fault he's a jackass. I'm not changing my life due to him!"

[-] alcibiades@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 week ago

Boy wait til you hear about Charlie Chaplin

[-] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

If memory serves right Hitler actually had a full stache pre-WW1 but do to the limitations of gasmasks at the time soldiers were given the chance to either shave fully or go with the toothbrush mustache Hitler chose the toothbrush, lots of folks had the toothbrush mustache during the interwar period because of this.

Nah. If Huckasands back when anyone was still pretending that the Mango Mussolini is accountable to anyone didn't scare people off it, nobody will.

[-] Burninator05@lemmy.world 31 points 1 week ago

Couch fucker doesn't have the charisma to take over.

[-] MadMadBunny@lemmy.ca 13 points 1 week ago

He might have the money and propaganda machine though

[-] kelpie_returns@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

He might. The thing about cults of personality is that they absolutely need a magnetic personality to cultivate around. Trump has proved intuitively capable at offering just that, while Vance has very much not. Money and power don't make up for a lack of charisma, which has been thoroughly exemplified by Musk and Zuck in recent years.

Vance is not left entirely without a chance at this ofc, but the momentum that brought him to his current office is not the same momentum he'd be riding to the next one up. He would have to 'git gud' essentially, and we dont really have any reason to believe he's capable of it atm.

It's possible, but I think they're going to keep shopping around for a more fitting charismatic leader. Vance just doesn't have the cheeks to fit that saddle, so they're only going to stick him on it if they fail to find someone they actually like/want.

[-] motor_spirit@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago

the republican mind is a terrible, unfortunate ailment

[-] Psythik@lemmy.world 18 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Geez, they're not even trying to hide their love affair. She sure got over Charlie quick.

Honestly I don't get what she sees in him.

[-] theneverfox@pawb.social 16 points 1 week ago

She's a grifter, he's a more successful grifter. It's not that complicated

[-] thermal_shock@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago
[-] Psythik@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Yeah but what does Usha Vance think of her husband's infidelity? Especially given that he's blatantly cheating on her in public?

Bah, why do I care anyway? She is a vile person and is probably in on the grift.

[-] theneverfox@pawb.social 5 points 1 week ago

Well she's not wearing her wedding ring apparently

I'm actually predisposed to give her a little grace. I don't know her story, but maybe she ended up with a kid before she realized the deal

[-] figjam@midwest.social 12 points 1 week ago
[-] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago

Why? Certainly not for romantic aspirations as he is gay.

[-] figjam@midwest.social 5 points 1 week ago

Well, he is a billionaire and they usually have money.

[-] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I mean she has Trump fawning over her and every billionaire is trying to get some piece of the pie from Trump so it's not like like Billionaires are necessarily in short supply for her.

[-] Assassassin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 1 week ago

Man, can you imagine willingly watching the Megyn Kelly show? Out of all of the insane right wing talking heads, she has got to have the most annoying holier than thou voice. Match that with her batshit views, and I think you've got new CIA blacksite 24/7 TV material that'd make Cheney crawl back out of his grave to say "hey, isn't that a bit of a harsh punishment?"

And I guess Ericka Kirk is in this story too. Who really gives a shit? She's only in the media until Charlie's death stops being useful, then turning point will replace her with a man (this is still the right wing, after all) and she will then start a podcast and fully fade into relative obscurity.

[-] fox2263@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

I’m sure she is

[-] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

I really don't understand why they would focus on elevating Vance. He's never really been a part of their movement, and the base has always known this.

They'd be orders of magnitude pushing a Tucker Carlson/ Candice Owens ticket, which, as a leftist, should be your greatest fear. Tucker Carlson has been able to keep an outsider status with the arms length he's always kept with the administrations once they are in office. Candice Owens has one of the most popular podcasts in the country. Both have extremely wide reach.

And most importantly, they've kept outsider status. And the US is still starving for change, and has been belligerently electing whomever represents that since 2008. Whoever gets to claim that mantle wins the election. And both Tucker Carlson and Candice Owens are far more capable political actors than Vance could ever be. Vance's only role in the campaign was securing the Silicon Valley oligarch bag. It was the price of admission.

[-] PunnyName@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

He's part of the Dark Enlightenment movement, progenitors of Project 2025.

[-] FilthyShrooms@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

Trump is basically a puppet for The Heritage Foundation, Vance will be exactly the same, just without the mental issues. If anything, that will make it easier to puppet him instead of Trump

[-] Bwaz@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Except while Trump's personality appeals to some (gawdknows why), Vance has zero, maybe negative charisma.

[-] ABetterTomorrow@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 week ago

lol no one likes him except his couch

[-] muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 week ago

Dude, there’s debate the couch even consented to that.

[-] muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 week ago

Oh finally some good news. Vance doesn’t have a chance in hell.

[-] Fedizen@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Nobody wants that weird little insincere toady.

[-] Formfiller@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

How does Vance’s wife feel about this “Support”?

[-] dhork@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

"In the works"? Is that what we're calling it now?

[-] kikutwo@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Good, what a landslide it shall be.
