Raygun: dishonestly positions herself to take the stage at histories largest physical competition on the international stage. Guaranteeing her chance to take the public eye and leave a mark on history and on the social zeitgeist.

Raygun: fails spectacularly, marking history and leaving behind a special legacy socially.

World: lmao wow

Raygun: it's not fair for you to make social commentary because I didn't do as well as I thought I would.

Get fucked, rayray. You made your bed and now you can sleep in it.

Some idiot online: Posts a complete fantasy retelling of this woman's experience and thinks he's funny for it.

A company tried to copyright HER image. She didn't lie about anything. The first Olympic breakdancing went great, go watch the earliest MMA matches or child pageants.

You're being told how to think by the news and accepting it at the cost of sounding pretty misogynistic, which I don't say lightly. Either you mock this woman cause you're a corporate boot licking asshole or you go "ha woman bad" like there's no other position.

And all for what? an Internet laugh? Grow up idiot.

You're rude (and also wrong LMAO)

[-] Doom@ttrpg.network 1 points 1 day ago

haha ok incel

[-] Aradina@lemmy.ml 26 points 4 days ago

I'm sympathetic, because if I embarrassed myself that bad I'd also want it to go away. But this ain't gonna make it go away lmao

Yeah, she's kinda Streisand-ing herself... And if she takes it to court, she might Lehrmann herself....

[-] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 21 points 4 days ago

I can explain it hell even Mr Krabs can explain it without listing to this clown

I only heard about it when I opened Reddit and half my front page was mocking her

Trying to copyright a kangaroo hop is going to be funny. I'm pretty sure we did that in PE in prep or grade 1. Not to mention, y'know, the fact there's 30-80 million (depending on whose guess you trust) animals out there doing it every day

[-] Excrubulent@slrpnk.net 2 points 3 days ago

Oh okay, you wanna trademark the single most efficient leg-based locomotion system in the animal kingdom? What's next, wheels? You want the rights to all wheels, as well? What else? Sure, you invented water, that's fine.

I meant I missed the analysis published on The Conversation that I linked. I heard about the shutting down of the musical and saw the news about Gunn's latest insta post. Her response seems kinda 'How do you do, fellow kids' and at first I thought it was hilarious in a 'gift that keeps on giving' kind of way but then I realised it's just sad.

Wait what? They're not paying their license fees? Arrest those filthy law breakers!

[-] Doom@ttrpg.network 15 points 4 days ago

Good I'm happy for her she seems genuine and the world is such a shit place

[-] Axefanatic@aussie.zone 33 points 4 days ago

There are many better break dancers in Australia but her and her partner lied and manipulated to get into the the Olympics and made a complete joke about what should be been a serious event.

[-] dumblederp@aussie.zone 40 points 4 days ago

Literally a national embarrassment then follows up with lawsuit over a parody show. I cannot wait to stop hearing about this woman.

[-] Doom@ttrpg.network 8 points 4 days ago

they were copyrighting HER likeness

Absolutely not. Grow up

[-] princessnorah 24 points 4 days ago

The claim that she cheated her way into the Olympics has been widely disproven: https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/australian-breakdancer-raygun-olympics/

[-] tyler@programming.dev 14 points 4 days ago

That was a completely false rumor that spread like wildfire because people like you will believe anything they read.

[-] gramie@lemmy.ca 10 points 4 days ago

I know absolutely nothing about breakdancing, but I do know that the clips I saw from the Olympics were embarrassing and shameful for any team. I don't know why she was there, but it was clear she shouldn't have been.

At least Eddie the Eagle displayed courage and dedication, even though he locked ability.

Now if you told me that she was doing it as a protest to vividly demonstrate the corruption and lack of values of the Olympic system, I could go along with that.

[-] tyler@programming.dev 7 points 3 days ago

When it’s the first event for anything, you’re not going to get the best. That’s just the fact of the matter. Some are going to sit out, some aren’t going to hear about it at all, some just won’t want to participate because it’s the IOC. And sometimes athletes just have a bad day. As plenty of actual breakers have pointed out, she’s not that bad, she was having a bad day. It’s pretty clear that memes are doing overtime on spreading misinformation this year.

[-] Doom@ttrpg.network 1 points 2 days ago

So that makes you cool with a corporation copyrighting her image?

[-] gramie@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 days ago

Why would you make such a strawman argument? I was replying to a comment that she was not worthy of representing her country at the Olympics in breakdancing.

[-] iegod@lemm.ee 5 points 4 days ago

We all saw the results. However she got there was shameful.

[-] Doom@ttrpg.network 9 points 4 days ago

the Olympics is a joke imo. the whole thing is corrupt and shitty

[-] recreationalcatheter@lemm.ee 4 points 4 days ago

Do two wrongs somehow make a right these days?

That's not a very honorable stance to defend.

[-] Doom@ttrpg.network 3 points 3 days ago

what wrong did she do lmfao

[-] INHALE_VEGETABLES@aussie.zone 2 points 3 days ago
[-] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 2 points 3 days ago

Everything I see on a daily basis tells me that yes, people believe 2 wrongs do in fact make a right.

[-] NounsAndWords@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago

She seems the exact opposite of genuine to me.

[-] macrocarpa@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Seems being the operative word here

I think she's good at seeming

[-] Doom@ttrpg.network 1 points 1 day ago

Nah straight up this women doesn't deserve any of this flak and at this point people still memeing on her are fuckin dweebs
